That may very well be true but he has only got himself to blame for coming across as first class b*llsh*ter whilst claiming to be an expert. He should have had the balls to either be himself on camera or tell the producer/director where to stick it, rather than selling out just for his 15 minutes of fame

I know. I wont defend it as he is so different on the telly.

Having said that, I'm a miserable, sweary old fart in real life and have to put my work face on every day so I come across on the phone as a bright, helpful and polite customer advisor...same thing only in reverse

Well I've never seen this show, I don't even have a telly, but I'm sure they have done everything wrong and I could do it better.

In fact I'm going out to buy a TV today put my foot though it, and send them the bill !

I remember seeing this show when I used to have a TV, it seemed they never had the right spanners for the job so the favourite tool was an adjustable wrench, used to drive me nuts. This type of show, along with the dancing, singing, reality rubbish is why I no longer have a TV

Similar to the narrow boat Dover that was restored for the TV show. Afterwards they sold it, the price plummeted, and major problems were uncovered in the shoddy work that was done. It had to be re- restored properly after. Its changed hands a few times since, much money lost by anyone who touched it.

According to Wiki Claire Barrett is an "industrial archeologist and steam engineer" yet aparrently thinks that gear wheels are "cogs" and the things that run on an electric motor's comuntator are bushes not brushes.
While accepting that the programme is made to entertain rather than inform they could at least have it "proof read" by a genuine " engineer".

I would not have minded the bushes but she said it twice glad I am not the only one would noticed, and as to the single point screw cutting you would have expected an experienced engineer to have done it.

Steam engineer? What's that qualification then? I don't think she's a female Dibnah.
A Master's Degree in Conservation and Industrial Heritage eh? Must sign up for that one, I expect you get it by return of post.

Nothing against her, but there must be people out there with better, REAL first hand skill plus a bit of patter to please the programme makers.

PS: just been trying to find where a MSc or MA in industrial heritage is run - no success.

Well you can get degrees in surfing, brewing, wine making, circus skills and The Beatles amongst other unusual courses, so Industrial Heritage seems fairly normal.

makes you wonder if the real folk with the skills are busy out there doing thier job and so they have to get these lot up on the tv

second thing , i guess anyone on telly gets to do so because they will act /do /say what the producers want , you know some greasy geezer with a fag in his mouth swearing and cursing isnt what they want to show

Brewing and wine making I can understand, especially in countries where their economies benefit from them (they make money out of me), plus there is a lot of science in modern brewing and wine making.
