Used MCBs?

Trying to get hold of a Volex 20A MCB as advised on here for my garage feed to stop the compressor tripping the current 16A type B MCB. I have found one on eBay that matches my style (the current ones are upside down compared to mine), but it is used. Should I be wary? They look a bit scratched up. I guess the seller removes them from buildings being refurbished?

I've got ones for home and the workshop off ebay. the consumer unit at home is no longer made and couldn't get a new MCB. For the work shop i got a 32A box with a 40A rcd cheap and wired that up to a 32A D curve MCB of ebay too. no problems with any of that kit.

MCB's are pretty much universal*, so long as the busbar slot height is roughly the same you can substitute one make for another.
You can buy a new MCB for less than £4, look online on Screwfix or Toolstation.

I have a Hager CU on my 15KVA generator which is fitted with a mix of Hager and LAP MCB's, the LAP one's being a perfect fit in the Hager CU.

*Electrical manufacturers advise you to only fit their MCB's into their consumer units but they also state that their MCB's are also suitable for other manufacturers consumer units!

not on my old squareD consumer unit though thats a proprietry fitting. But the one in the workshop is a "univeral" one

better off with a type C or D curve MCB to stop the tripping

I tried to find a C curve in either 16A or 20A but they seem rarer than hens teeth. Certainly Volex ones anyway.

Just use Wylex as mentioned above. Straight fit for Volex
