OK so many moons ago when i built my shed i only needed a bit of power and light right, so i just ran 4mm cable in conduit from a 32amp plug in mcb. I have a consumer unit in the shed that are all c rated mcb's

Wrong !

I am now using more juice than a small town and tried using full power on the mig 250amps on a 32amp fuse and it tripped the fuse in the house.

I can't get c curve mcb's that are the plug in type "Wylex"

What are my easy options.

To a non electrician an mcb is a fuse

It is a modern board but it's old as well if that makes sense

slightly off topic, I had similar issues with a lower powered MIG.

I use wylex rewireable fuses in my house. when I got my 150amp mig it was blowing 15A fuse wire on the rewirable fuse to my garage (if I tried welding on full power for more than a second). When I replaced the rewireable fuse with a 15A plug-in mcb, it was fine, and hasn't tripped since

if it should have re-wireable fuses it cant be modern it may not be as old as some, I havn't seen one of those fitted in years

Have you got fuses in the neutral as well as the live? Is the cabling lead sheathed?

My first house had bare copper wires laid in wooden channel rebated into a timber, then capped with another timber. I thought that it was the bell system - NO it was the lighting circuit !!!!!!!!!

wylex had a plywood backplate --frame and a bakerlite strip with terminals and cover with rewirable fuses. u could get the plug in mcb to replace them and upgrade a bit if u have a half decent db with mcb in garrage change the one back in the house to a rewirable one and it will take a lot more inrush current than the plug in mcb

I am more concerned with my cable it should be safe but is it ok ? breakers popping is an annoyance but melted cable no way

If you cannot find a D rated mcb that will simply fit into the fuse holder of the old wylex consumer unit, replace the mcb with a 45amp rewirable fuse and your problem will go away, Job Done,

no it's not, its just not as old as some

the old rewirable wylex only go up to 30 amp apart from the ones with a seperate holder for the 45 amp mcb or cartrige fuse to the right of the mainswitch

only if u nip the lip of the the 45 amp holder it will fit in to the slot. the contacts are only rated at 30 amp even though it will work . they sometimes burn out . on an nic eic test it would fail doing so
