Dirty welders

I've just spent Friday, Saturday and Monday on site calibrating welders in time for an ISO audit tomorrow.

Most steel shops are a nightmare to keep clean an this place was no exception, one set had a pile of dog eng rollup cigarettes on the bottle platform, over a hundred I'd say.

Anyway, if ever there was an argument for regular machine servicing and fan on demand I'd say this place is right up there.

I've seen so much worse but even the fairly new machines had a big buildup of debris in them.

It doesn't take long to blow your kit out guys, for the sake of poor suffering machinery everywhere, give em a clean once a year

Makita £100 ish. Li, 110 and 240 . UB1103 (latest I think) is the 240v

What he said, the mains one has more go but the cordless one is better for site use for obvious reasons.

Sorry to jump the gun and answer the Q, I see the 1103 is a later model with new impeller for 40% more output, also has the black rubber grip on the handle

Its got variable speed too, so the nice low setting is good for putting life back into barbeques and bonfires etc. Or blowing up air beds in a hurry. I sometimes use it for work too!

I had to do that to my computer last week, it was way worse than that and looked like something had nested inside it It's cured the overheat alarm going off now and the fans are a lot quieter

For site use I can see the point but if I'm in the workshop I'd reach for the compressed air every time.

Bet they found it a lot easier to push round the workshop after that blow out.

I do use a compressor when I'm in the shop.

Oooohhhh.... they look good... My safety specs always mist up when I use disposable masks, so that looks a much better option.

All our welders get opened and cleaned twice a year it's not a big job can't understand why company's spend money on good welders then leave them to go like that a fabrication/welding shop Is cat for dust and a lot of the time grinder dust 10 mins Isn goin to break a company

I spoke to a guy on the phone last night - he'd seen my gumtree ad for the SIP and wanted to pick my brains over what was wrong with his (maybe cheeky, but he was a nice chap and I admired his chutzpah so was happy to have a chat )

It was blowing the fuse every time he pulled the trigger and he'd already replaced the relay so my remaining ideas were that the transformer/choke had shorted (unlikely, but terminal) or he had grinder dust in the power selector switches. That hit a cord; "oh yeah - it's full of grinding dust!"

Dunno whether that sorted it, but it's already convinced me that I need to get a blanket to cover my new welder.

They do look good actually. I have exact same problem. Glasses steaming up with dust mask.
