Land Rover Defender 110 Rebuild

Sorry I've not been on, spent time with family and boyfriend who's now gone to Canada on excercise for two months. I must get it all complete by the time he gets back no if and or buts!

2 months, the rate you work at it will be done in 2 weeks!

If only. Painting everything is what's going to take the time now I wish I could afford to pay someone. I'd have it done withint a month I think if I could. Little bit more mechanical stuff to do but mostly there now just allot of painting

After picking the bulkhead up from storage ive noticed another small rust patch that's kind of hidden. It's really anoyed me. I really don't want to fix it but the ocd in me makes me want to do it lol

I did ask the guys if they noticed any more holes after blasting again to let me know. Maybe it was there when I dropped it off.
I think if I just repair it and paint it like I'm going to there shouldn't be any issue really. Just an annoyance really.

I'm Get evening everyone. Did loads of work today, unfortunately it's odd jobs and painting the wheels sorted all the wheel bearing minus one which ive lost the fold over washed for not happy. Also removed the swivel housing and replaced the seal which took about ten mins that swivel with the hub on is so unbelievably heavy. What a paint it was trying to refit it. Tomorrow I plan on getting a load more done need to prep another load of parts to paint black and prep front & rear bulkhead

This was final wheel bearing and the swivel seal replacement

I would show the wheels but I want to wait till they are on the tyres and fitted I must say they look incredible I can't wait to get them on

I'm unsure if you're serious or joking haha, I'm not painting the drive shaft or gearbox, I can't see the point. It's a working vehicle.

I know but it really cant see the points, it's not a show vehicle. If it were Id do it all but it's so pointless. And for me to feel as though I've done the gearbox how Id like it Id want to strip it to nothing and rebuild it all and have it shor blast. That'll cost about £500 more replacing all the bearings and stuff.

I agree with you, you have to stop somewhere. There are parts you just have to accept that they're ok else the cost becomes prohibitive & uneconomic. If the gearbox proves to be noisy & requires stripping, then maybe the time, but the box I don't think was painted from the factory, so why paint it now. Only my opinion though.

Have you replaced the propshaft UJ,s now would be the time if not, looking at the pictures it doesn't look as if they're new. They can show no slack in then by hand, but when you take them apart you find they're shot, better than grovelling on your back to do it, they're not dear & can cause some awful vibrations. Then maybe paint the shafts

Thanks cobbler, that's what I thought, I'm really ocd and actually thought but didn't say I have to draw a line somewhere. No point pulling things apart that don't need it as you say and you've probably all realised if I'm going to strip it I'll want to full rebuild it all and have it all blasted then painted but in not doing engine or gearbox as they were fine.

My boyfriend changed the rear UJ's so may just do front.

Hi, you don't have to go mad with the propshaft, change the U/Js, wire brush the worst of the rust off and then flick it over with an aerosol of satin black. job done, looks like new.

Not having much luck today, trying to strip things for painting and a bit of rot in the rear bulkhead which is alumium and I can't weld it because I don't know how or have a tig :'( not sure what to do.

My friend said about plating the smaller two which I could do nicely and seal over it but now I've seen the bigger holes where the seat belt mounts bolt to I'm not are what to do.

Help lol
