Insulation for a garage workshop ?

Hi all, happy days, a si have a new job and life is back on form i can now start to build my garage/workshop, It is going to be inplace of the Con`y so it will be joined onto the house, i know a garage does not exactly need wall insulation and it will have two 6x3 foot windows along the side from the con`y. The question for wall insulation is so in the future as you never know what happens it could be used/changed for use as an extension. So whilst at it i mite aswell fit it know during the build, it will be either double skin block or block with outer brick.

what insulation would be good to use, i dont want anything to expensive though. Rock woll maybe, slabs ?

any suggestions please.

Oh and the roof will be insulated aswell with a Kingspan/Celotex type.

I have been wanting a garage for so long its about time. i have to thank SWMBO for letting me though as it no Con`y now.
No more days of messing in the rain or getting rained off. Got my multi fuel stove aswell for it from the con`y

If its attached to the house won't it fall under building regs ? Especially if you may want to use it as house extension in the future I think it would also need floor insulation aswell if the regs do apply

for walls use dritherm, full fill
floor will need to be at least 100mm polystyrene or 80mm kingspan/celotex with 25mm perimeter insulation

Dritherm aint cheap is it, i guess its good stuff though for the price.

it is easier and cheaper than celotex by the time you factor in cutting, insulation restraints and miles of aluminium tape

lol yes the tape. just done a rough work out on the cost of Dritherm for it and its around £650 OMG, is that expensive ? sounds it.

Ebay kida, it sounds good stuff as water proof/rot free etc, but dont want to spend that much, i know insulation is a big thing but if not to be used as a room at a later date there is no need, in the con`y we had a 6.5Kw multi fuel stove and that was dam warm with no insulation and single skin wall. So twice the volume area a bigger stove would keep it warm enough to use cheaper insulation.

Ok not impressed much, not to bad though, i just found out that i need building regs even for an attatched garage or even detached as the garage will be 50sqm, well above the 30sqm limit for bull **** building regs.

Now, i am sure i dont but if i build an attached canopy of 37sqm onto a workshop/store which is already there of a area of 15sqm i dont need any PP or building tegs???

I had a single story garage build on side of my house but it was done as if it was for a two levels ie extra footings for two story if needed at a later date. I had the works done insulation in floor , walls ect ect ...Basically if I ever wanted to change it in to a living room or games room it's a job that can be done.. worth a think about for future as not a lot of people want big garages etc these days apart from us lot

if the TOTAL floor area is over 30m2, or if attached, it needs B Regs,

you should see some of the DIY garages I see. dangerous doesnt start to describe.

I was told by a local builders merchants that only the canibis growers buy that stuff these days to try shield out the heat pick-up in the roofs spotted by the police helicopters. Its a shocking price.

So what's the favourite at the moment then?

I'll be looking to insulate the roof in my new garage in the coming months, but it's a pretty big roof so would cost a small fortune even in kingspan.

Have you looked at 2 part spray foam?
