that's one less id go round with sealant once you are sure you've got them all they can squeeze through tiny holes

they can get through holesl less than the size of a pencill ive seen it, one was in the back off a socket the only way in was a a 20mm hole with grommet fitted and 2 pieces of 2.5mm flat twin and earth cable through . couldnt believe it if i hadnt seen it

I fully expect there to be more to come, but im ready for bed now and theres been no scratching noises at all, the silence is bliss.

Bare in mind, ive kept this little problem a secret from the missus, every time I started to hear scratching I kept having to run into the garage, up the step ladders and bang on the joists to spook them til she went to bed

Believe me, if she knew there were mice running around underneath her as she slept,......my balls would be on Parms bbq.

My mrs is phobic about mice, so once or twice a year I have to do the poisen thing as we live in the sticks and we have insulation between the stone exterior walls and plasterboard that they love to live in, they come in at autumn. I dont like killing anything unless I have to and am a live and let live person, but the other poster that said they need dealing with before they cause an electrical fire or damage things is spot on.

To make life easier I have some facia blanks with no backs in the boxes behind in each room, I just pop the front off the one nearest the noise source, push some poisen grains in and pop the front back on to stop the cats getting into it, occasionally you hear one squealing and in a day or so theres a smell that lasts a day then is gone. All brands are not equal, the longer duration ones are easier to get, but the rapid 10 second effective stuff gets the job done, albeit somewhat noisily as you get to hear the full gamut of distress as it happens.
You can also get petsafe poisen traps, which hold the grains inside a chamber via a small entrance so the pet cant get at it, but if you use the included slow release stuff, the mice get poisened then theres a chance the cats can eat it while its groggy. One bad mouse wont kill a cat but it will make it throw up, but a few will.

In the roofspace, we often get late night scratchy noises, but they can be bats roosting here (pipistrels) as they come in through the open roof vents, and I like to just leave them be as they scoff all the hornets and flies, my mrs gets a bit freaked out until Ive been in the loft and spied fresh bat poo near where they hang out and stuff then shes ok with it.

my dog ate 2 blocks they were behind a concrete planter wired up near the wall .someone backed there car in our drive and shunted the planter in went the dog .fortunately i saw the blue round his chops and knew what it was a trip to the vets and they made him puke up 2 hours later he was wantin his grub and was fine

I can understand that, some blue block baits smell like chocolate and then we have the pasta tray baits

I tried to leave the mice alone and paid less heed to the odd rat around the ponds etc. main reason being we have owls resident, when rats and mice get in your home though it can get real serious real fast so it had to be done.
I did a lot of research on secondary poisoning first mind and how to prevent it, we still have owls, kestrel a buzzard and normally get a male hen harrier visit for a few weeks early spring until nesting proper commences.

Our cat brings live mice into the house, plays with them till they are 3/4 dead then loses interest, they then limp off and die under a book case or similar difficult to move bit of furniture.

Ours brought a mouse in a few years back (he's too old now!) and let it go under the bookcase. Me and the wife dragged the bookcase out and chased the mouse for 20 mins, by the time we caught it we found the cat sneaking off upstairs to bed!!!

The wife clocked him sneaking off all sheepish, she grabbed him and hoiked him out of the back door with a few choice words !

its because they want to help you with hunting as you seem a bit crap to them, so its a way of teaching, its what mother cats do to kittens. Ours bring in about one a day in mid summer, but they run off with them to stop the others nicking them if theyre about and eat them quick, but if its just you and one cat they release it and watch you intently. If they leave you to it afttter a while, theyve given up on the lesson for that day.
Mine have figured out I am ok at mousing as I steal their catches on arrival and dispatch them quickly and dispose to stop my wife having to deal with it, and when my wife + kids were away they brought nothing in and they run off and hide from me when they have a catch, but when Im away however they make a beeline for my mrs for a spot of education. Maybe they like the blood curdling screams that accompany the lessons too.
The furry assasins in our midst. I like them more for being hunters, not less, Id have a pet jaguar or something if I could just to see it terrify all the people that like to try and abuse cats because theyre smaller than them. Rough play might be a bit hectic for the kids when they have friends round mind, but it would be worth it to see the local dogs that run free on the road with no owners around being chased by something bigger faster and meaner than them for a change.

you can put steel wool into smaller holes, if you expanding foam them, the rodents dig through, but they dont like the feel of the mesh, so the bloke from rodent control reckoned, and its worked for me.
I had a socket start smoking in my office once and a trip flipped out on tha circuit, and when I took the facia off, there was a slug on fire inside where it had shorted out between live and neutral...
