Painting galv; any tips?

I've just sold a kidney to buy a pair of new doors for my landrover, they're the superdooper galvy ones from SP. Other than starting with etch primer, is there owt I need to do to get it to stick? Tips on online paint vendors who'll flog me all I need appreciated too.

Believe T-Wash is the important part. It somehow "neutralises" the Galv to all ow etch primer to adhere..

another thing they do for industrial galv is leave it to weather before painting.

Yes, a wash with Methylated spirit will degrease and remove oil traces, and left outside for a month will weather it. !! easier said than done.

mmmm shiny! I would fit them as is and show everyone how rich you used to be, unfortunately they will dull down quite quickly

On site cabins we used to make, after the steel had been weathered outside before construction, it consisted of a wash down with a mixture of gunwash and panel prep, etch primer and then top colour..

Maybe a coat of clear coat and you have a "New type of patina" You could start a trend......

Am pretty sure at work when we had to have some galvanised handrail painted our contractor used epoxy primer and top coat.
