gas usage

Tested for leeks and can't fined any. Didn't take the welder apparent. Did manage to turn Reg down to 5 lpm without soot forming. After lunch it then had a little soot until I used it for a few seconds then ok again. Strange. The regs keep the same pressure all night after being turned of so I guess there isn't a leek. Need to get that pee flow meter . All so before when I was welding there was a very strong smell of gas now nothing. Is it worth getting co2 bottle. How much affect does it have on neatness of weld etc. All so is it worth getting a gas saving those for between bottle and welder

To go from Ar mix to co2 would be a down grade in my eyes. More spatter, runs hotter, not as clean welding.

I run my gas at 12-15lpm, get lovely clean welds that pass testing everytime without fail.

Gas is just a consumable like welding wire, gloves, the base metal etc.

That's interesting, didn't realise some gas companies had started putting a scenting agent in their shielding gases, not a bad idea then it would be easier to tell if you had a leak. Who's gas is it?

It's called corgon 78/18. But I live in portugal. Now I've turned the flow down I can't smell it so probably wouldn't smell on small leak. I presumed the smell was the argon? Does the pea flowmeter go instead of the flow gage or after and does it have to be level as my hose comes of at 45 deg. Can some one estimate how long a 12 litre bottle should last. Difficult I know. All I have made is a welding table, welding trolley, some 20 mm box frames prob around 180 inch weld and I have used 1200 psi of a 12 l bottle

I would say you have done pretty well at that!!!

What pressure did your gas stop working at

Zero!! But the gauge was knackered. The flow dropped in the flow meter, which is what I noticed.
