Hi Sid, welcome to the forum.
Axminster tools do a 6x4 which has the advantage of a swivel head which makes it much easier to cut long lengths, no dragging the saw round when you change angles.
Regarding the normal 6x4's, they're all pretty much of a muchness mechanically, the only differences on them are usually the motor and sometimes the switchgear.
it depends if you want to be able to use the saw vertically? as some of them do and some dont.
ive got a clarke myself and now that ive replaced the crappy stand it works a treat. as the original is very flimsy so cause al lot of vibrations.
oh yea make sure that you get a Bi-metal blade for what ever saw you get as the carbon steel 1's are useless.
probably cuz its made from 100x40C channel which is 10mm thick and it made an awful lot of difference.ive got the clarke 6x4 myself. i have made a new heavy duty stand for it tho, with 4 big castors on it, so its easy to place where its needed.
the stand really does need to be very heavy tho, i cant even lift mine, probably cuz its made from 100x40C channel which is 10mm thick and it made an awful lot of difference.
i also always run it on full speed, unless using vertically. and ive never had a problem with the bi-metal blade that ive got. and its done in excess of 100 cuts so far, unlike the cheap carbon 1's which seam to brake after about 10 cuts if your lucky.
I think i'll go for the Clarke model, i like the idea of being able to use it vertically as well.

Mine is the Clarke one had it about 6 yrs now with no major probs.Google is handy for finding improvement tips theres even a Yahoo group on the 4x6 saw.The vertical cutting thing was an afterthought by the looks of things. The "table" for vertical cutting is next to useless as its too small and flimsy so I made one from 10mm alu plate which helps things no end. Also the guides are also quite far apart for use when in vertical mode but you can drill/tap more holes to get them closer together not much but as tesco like to say every little helpsI think i'll go for the Clarke model, i like the idea of being able to use it vertically as well.
