doubt it seems to have come from a hospital the owner was going to mount it on a historic truck but never did worth i look

Modern control panel (the one with the plugs) kind of does not match up with either story.

Vintage truck?
And hospital would all be hard wired.



But, armchair detective stuff aside... ; )

A lot of output for not a massive amount of cash.

I recently bought a 12 kv single phase Lister generator showing 100.3 hours on the clock, but the engine is 1982 vintage. Now I actually believe mine as the engine internals are immaculate - it was hard wired as a stand by in council offices and I suspect only did test runs.

Hi, as said a hospital would have a generator hard wired in on an automatic start triggered by a power dip.
I suspect this is an auxiliary set for manual start if the main set failed for whatever reason or if the main set alarmed due to overload. Hence the low hours probably the result of the occasional start to make sure it still worked whenever the main set is serviced.

Surely a hospital would have fairly frequent scheduled test runs for any standby generator, so a total of 3 hours running time sounds a bit doubtful.

I visited a big poultry enterprise years ago, and I think their standby gensets were run for something like 20 minutes each week on light load, plus an hour on full load once every six months. A hospital would probably have an even more stringent testing regime (assuming that human patients are more valued than hens).

i doubt it was a main genny more like a second or third back up all the switch gear on the wooden panel is the sellers fitting not for original use

that's usually the case, had a power outage at home, I start the genny every so often did it start nope battery went flat, probably my fault really for not charging it sooner

We had the same at one place I used to work at, 8.5 litre diesel ran for 15 mins once a week and it wasnt long before it wouldn't start, we changed it to 1hr a week and it was fine even in the depths of winter.

My previous job (which was 13 years ago, jeez - time flies) we had a container sized generator plonked in the carpark for the R&D centre inside. What rating would that be? It was a 40ft unit...

Anyways, "the management" decided that they were going to sell our business unit off so tensions were running high. Previously, we did a standby test once a month at 08:00, firing the genny up for a few minutes.

The genny was parked right outside the managing director's office window...

Once we knew we were for the chop, "disaster recovery tests" became much more frequent. Basically, whenever the datacentre guys got pee'd off, they'd go down to the genny and look through the MD's window. The minute he started what looked like an important call, they'd fire up the generator. Cripes, it was loud

Could be up to ~1MW depending on age.

Watched a backup gennie for the ships systems on launch in the shipyard completely detonate, apparently theres only two in the UK and they're the size of a 40ft container, the exhaust is the size of a dustbin, and they have a large disc that cam locks into it during transport to stop rain getting in. Apparently leaving these in and then revving the beans out of it for 5 minutes back pressures enough to really make a mess, with a bang that could be heard at the other end of the yard and a cloud of smoke that took about 20mins to dissipate
