1mm cutting discs

I bought a load frfirstdi long time ago, They are still on the shelf.They so soft they vanish quicker than a rat up a drain pipe.

I bought the entire bin of those power craft disks. They were not bad, 14 p each though so i cant complain. trouble is one batch is different to another, not worth it really if you want reliable quality tools.

I know this has been discussed on other threads but, unlike milk, I understand the "use by" date needs to be adhered to for discs, right?

I bought a tin of ten cutting disks in the autumn and have used five of them so I suspect that's the right kind of bulk/quantity for me to be buying right now.

I would rather pay a bit more myself and get branded, quality discs as they last longer and I can't be bothered with the faff of changing a disc because it won't cut cleanly after a few goes.

Digestive biscuits are tougher than some of discs Ive used

Got given some black spur hacksaw blades once, a butter knife would have been more usefull.

From my local cheap jack DIY place called 'Proper Job'. Although a quick Amazon search popped up 20 discs for 8.99.

I got a tin of Bosch discs which have lasted me ages (only used 4 in all the time I've been welding). I also had some in a box of goodies dad brought home, they didn't last nearly as long. I seem to remember they were branded but made for mild steel, the Bosch discs are for Inox (FWIW, Inox comes from inoxidable, AKA stainless (steel)) I think the stainless wheels are harder or something.

Yes, supposedly the resin that holds the abrasive together will degrade over time meaning an old disc might explode but BrightSpark said he's been using some 25+Y/O wheels without problems so it might be a load of hokum. For the cost of them though, I'd rather only use in date ones than risk getting lacerated by a failed old one.

They are a bit soft, but they probably work out the same as decent ones on a cost per cut basis, just more disc changes needed. The biggest problem is the metal ferrules are crap, some fall off the disc and some are undersize and get stuck on the drive flange. I use them for cutting up stuff which is likely to grab or damage the disc(tube seems very bad), to save wrecking a decent one; I have a box of flexovit for 'proper' work.

Yep, most of the metal ferrules fall off, but I've never had a problem, I ran the 115 mm in a 125mm Bosch grinder.

I used a bosch 1mm cutting disc today to do four 3" long cuts in 5/8 plate today and used just over 1 disc. they last for ages and produced less dust.

The old thick disks that no one wants anymore are perfect for grinding out welds.

Not that I've ever done that, all my welds are perfect.

I have a small stash of 3mm discs, I save them for delicate grinding tasks, just watch out for them going kapow when you forget it is a thin one in the grinder.
