just curious of what the advantages are of the large gas lense compared with the standard size gas lenses for the wp17/26 tig torches

in work we oonly ever use wp20 torches so oonly ever been used to a standard size gas lense, now with this ck17 you can get standard gas lenses or extra large diameter ones, is it not the size of ceramic that will make the difference in shielding coverage?? sorry if im sounding like a thick welder, I am only a kid at 33 though ha ha

, I used to use the normal gas lense but recently changed to the CK Pyrex cup gas lense, I was a bit of a disbeliever about the Pyrex cup setup until the guy in the states where I get my CK stuff from sent me a free one to try, now I'm sold on them, they definitely save gas and are nice to use.

I have mixed feelings about the CK gas saver system. I have lots of gas saver collet bodies, alumina cups, screens etc but I have reverted to using normal gas lenses.
The CK gas saver parts now reside on a box and only come out if required.
I love their wedge collets though since they last a lot longer than normal split collets.

Pros:
- I get better gas coverage compared to a normal gas lens.
- Slimmer cups make access easier
- Replaceable mesh screen
- I absolutely hate the push on system, if you tend to change cup sizes often (like when pipe welding and walking the cup) it ruins the mesh screen. This mostly happens with the ceramic cups and not the pyrex cup which slides easier on and off.
- Can't handle heat very well as the o ring melts in high current situations (air cooled torch).

Nice to see some fair facts around an opinion. I've never used one and have heard very mixed reviews on them. I will get one to try out probably a Pyrex one as langy has within next few weeks then I'll post my opinion on them.

I can get CK stuff direct from the states but the problem you have with the torch hose is that they use a different fitting, I have asked if they can supply with a 3/8 bsp fitting but not had a reply yet

I think i rang ck about that very question around 2 years ago,very helpful.and clued in too.none of that 'computer says no' ********Both actually, neither have replied yet, they probably not heard of BSP
I cant remember the reply though,cos i ended up needing a different fitting

how come rapid welding can supply the ck torch hoses with 3/8 bsp fitting??
Because they're the official UK importer of CK stuff. I've no idea whether CK would be happy to directly supply anyone else wholesale in the UK but i suspect that Rapid had to commit to largish quantities

Correct , you wouldn't believe the size of the buy ins for some companies in America, and they don't understand that we are a much smaller market either.

The ck stuff is definitely worth the money. I work in the aviation industry and never had the chance of the flex cable before. Trying to convince my boss now to get one for are Miller set in work. I take it you can get a flex hose in the water cooled torches.
Yeah they exist for water cooled torches. There's nothing unique* about the flexibility of CK hoses, they're just overbraided silicone rubber and have been about for eons- every Murex transtig 252/352 (ESAB heliarc in disguise) i've seen/used had a wp18 or 20 size torch with hoses just as flexible and just as fragile/easy to damage. I've got a vague recollection they were made by Interlas. CK are just the only company to shout about ultra flexible torch hoses
If the machine needs a gas (or water) through dinse adaptor then a neater way is to use a US dinse adaptor as the water/gas fitting is easily changed unlike with a power cable
* CKs 'failsafe' threaded hose connections at the torch end on the other hand are unique to them AFAIK although it's only relevant on water cooled torches which typically use wire ties and/or O-clips for the gas and water in
Yeah, i've experienced it in the bicycle trade and that was (probably) dealing with more widely travelled Americans that'd not only travelled outside of the state they were born in but actually visited other countries too
