Are GSM alarm systems any good, the ones you put a SIM card it to call you when away from home?

havent u got a landline and house alarm i have an autodialer that rings up to 3 times and 3 diffrent numbers if it isnt cancelled

Its very common now to have GSM alarms, I have a pal with a security company and we quite often route the landlines for him but they all have multiple carrier GSM modules.
That way if someone cuts the landline the alarm will still operate.
The multiple carrier modules will cycle through the various 2g, 3g and 4g frequencies on all carrier services to try and guarantee a connection even if someone is try to block it.
Locally some crim's decided to break in to the Co-op so they lifted the BT manhole cover and cut every cable in sight.
In the process they wiped out all the landlines and both the copper and fibre data connections for the NHS headquarters up the road, we had a fun couple of days rerouting calls to other NHS bases until Openreach repaired the damage.
Tens of thousands of pounds of damage for £300 worth of booze and fags.

I've looked through eBay a number of times but struggle to sift through the Chinese unbranded stuff, can anyone recommend any suppliers or manufactures?
I too bought a couple of those GSM/GPS trackers .Brilliant for the costly price of about £26 each !!
There designed for car use but in fact you can use them anywhere with a 12v battery .For instance in a caravan , 12v battery and a solar battery charger ,just an example . You program it from your mobile , turn it on ,turn it off , put it into standby mode , set off a warning siren [30s] it has a microphone ,so you can dial up and listen .For use in a car it has a panic button and the ability to switch off your car's engine remotely but for using it around the home or garage ,link it to a sensor and it will ring you back when activated .
Yes, these have all sorts of use's not strictly for inside the car .
