I must have asked the stupid question once or twice. I am careful to read everything but I like to ask everything though if its clear like then I would not ask. I think ebay is full of special people. I tend to buy more than I sell as I just can't take the stress of dealing with the special people

I do give the response which is deserved if I get those type of replies... I have told enough people where to go and I will continue to do so. Some of the time I don't play and also do not respond

After TWICE selling perfectly good items and having the buyers broken parts returned I have stopped selling on eBay, especially as I provided proof this had happened and ebay still refunded the buyer and effectively ignored me.

I am starting legal action on Monday against ebay to get my money back

I had this when I worked for the Chinese guy and he decided to end the agreement. They had sent out a DOA cutter to a customer and the guy from belfast was p%^&* )(& that they would not collect and honour the warranty as they did in the UK.

We separated and I got the return sent to my address BUT it was full of an OLD cutter years and years old all in bits. I took pictures and ebay was not interested they just refunded him. I needed £400 back so as advised i went and saw the Chinese guys solicitor....he was not impressed by the chinese guy using him as a shield so he said go and see him in person LOL....I left his premises with £400 BUT ebay were NO USE AT ALL.

When I was working there WE had also had a return of a heat press..........BOX.... it did not contain anything other than styrene chips. The courier waltzed in with it dangling off his little finger...ALL ON TAPE. Saying no much in this one chaps. EBAY refunded the Buyer.....refused to refund us..

The worst thing was they were not interested in the evidence one little bit.

I hope you win BUT my guess and gut feeling is no chance.

The guys that **** me off are the ones who don't have a Buy it Now, don't say they have the thing advertised elsewhere, then sell it to someone who makes an offer.

Just what is it they don't get about the word 'auction'?

This happened twice with lathes recently, I'd contact a shipper, go to make a bid based on the shipping cost, then discover the b**tard had taken an offer. Still looking, but maybe I won't go with ebay....

I sold a car radio (Ford OE). 3 weeks later, get a dispute from eBay, claims the CV player doesn't accept CD's. I messaged the guy, asking why it's taken 3 weeks to tell me it doesn't work. He says he needed the radio removal tools to arrive.

I had to refund the entire purchase price, delivery and return postage. eBay said my item was not as described.

Upon receipt of the radio, I set up a video camera. Removed my Ford Sony radio I upgraded to, and refit the returned one. I put a CD in and played it on film. I uploaded it to YouTube and contacted eBay. I got my seller fee refunded, and that was it. Cost me 20 quid in delivery/return postage.

Now here is why I am really annoyed. You don't need a radio removal tool to change the radio I sold. You need one for the older Focus. I suspect he changed his mind, and knew ebay would side with him.

From now on, eBay can kiss my ass.

I only use ebay to sell big machines or big kit that the buyer has to stand in front of me with a wad of cash and a wagon to collect.
I'm honest and very detailed with my listings and just delete every daft question.

For a 10 day listing i must get 30-40 emails saying 'have you got a buy it now price mate?' despite putting in the listing that i won't end the auction early. 'Make me an offer' i always say - oddly enough i rarely get an answer.

There's some good sellers/buyers on there, and some bargains to be had, but certainly to be used with eyes wide open!

I put one on for parts/not working as it was 50/50 whether it started and if it did it had low voltage out, so I get a message asking if it would power the fan on a bouncy castle

I had it once. States will dispatch within 1 working day. The buyer thought this meant they would receive the item in one working day. We had some abusive message exchanged.

Also guys if you sell an item and the buyer is going to collect it never let them pay by paypal. A freind of mine did this. He sold something, buyer paid paypal, collected item then a few days later the buyer had opened a case stating he never received the item. Ebay wanted proof of postage. Ebay allways favour the buyer every time.

It all started good untill folk started to mess about wit it, to many rules and things now, to easy to rip sellers off ( reason i dont sell on there anymore ) it should stay as an auction and thats it, sellers gets billed if they remove before end of auction etc buyer pays end of auction or gets banned etc.

Never sell plant or equipment without pay immediatly. The Nigerian scammers are bidding on, and promising cash on collection, but turn up wanting to do a bank transfer from a laptop they bring with them. We had this, they go into a well rehearsed act, and are as hard to get rid of than **** off a blanket. Take a picture of them though and they take off like lewis Hamilton.

Unfortunately at the time we was on someone else's property, so couldnt do any thing nasty to them. I.e lock them in a shipping container over the weekend.

i see no reason to be rude. It probably takes more effort than 'No, there's no buy it now' or 'No, there are no lights' and if you put your reply in the 'show questions' bit their idiocy (and often their hone number) is there for all to see.

I usually sell for a fixed price, rarely have any problems and never had an attempted scam on anything I have put for sale. Only had one seller (try to) rip me off but I caught him at it. Got my money back because he was too cheap to pay for tracking.

If buyer wants to pay by PAYPAL for an eBay auction then it's part of the rules that you have to accept this method of payment. One of the advantages of using PAYPAL is the buyer protection - even if they collect in person.

I use ebay TOO much as a buyer, but I hardly ever bid on auctions anymore, and if I do, I make sure it's something I can drive to collect unless it's a low value item.

Reason for this is, of course, that the amateur sellers on ebay are about 20/80 idiots/normal, and I just cannot be bothered to deal with the 20% idiots. One of my main gripes is when I'm interested in an item and have some questions, I send a detailed email, stating each question in turn, e.g.:

Dear so and so,

I'm interested in item xxx, but have some questions. Could you please clarify the following:

1. xxx
2. yyy
3. zzz

The questions are not obscure, but tend to be something like "If I win, could I collect on a weekend".

In _most_ cases (sadly), I get a response back responding to question 1, or a response with no relevance what so ever to what I asked, and I usually lose interest at this point, tbh.


When it comes to buy-it-now "auctions", it's different, as then it's usually a company with at least a modicum of customer service skills, and in effect ebay just becomes a multiplexer of online shop fronts, which it does a brilliant job at! I hardly bother going anywhere else now, unless I cannot find what I'm looking for on an ebay shop.


As a seller, I make sure I list every item with decent photos and have a detailed description, with separate headed sections for "description of item", "item condition", "payment&postage/delivery" etc etc, and I hardly ever get any questions tbh, and touch wood, so far I've only had one (what I assume to be) scammer buy something off me ("item lost in post blah blah").

But as the seller, PayPal will have your pants down when the buyer decides that the item you sold is not wanted and wishes to return it... Well... They return something, but not the item that you sent. Now they get refunded and you are now out of pocket for the cost of the item and have a box of useless junk for your troubles.

Ebay is not a sellers best friend. i sold a snap on electronic torque wrench buyer claimed it was broken, id only used it twice ebay payed him out and i got sent a knackered tool back with a broken battery cap which he broke. i was one step ahead and closed my paypal account before they took the money back. they are still sending solicitors letters 2 years later, told them get stuffed (ebay and the solicitors) as i didnt sign a credit agreement, cost me £82 to get the torque wrench repaired.
