Ah OK, I wouldn't dispute that at all, but for info did it USED to be all tests?? I have it in my head it was but like I say I could be completely mistaken.

another example is when driving a farm tractor there are two brake pedals, when heavy loaded in a hilly field and braking you have to adjust each brake individually to get even stopping, with one foot otherwise you will jackknife the rig.
Thinking about it this where I learnt it as a boy of 12 driving tractors at one of the local hilly farms that I worked at.

Yes it did use to be on all tests but was dropped so the indy drive could be added.
They are now looking at dropping the turn in the road & reverse left & thinking about adding driving forwards in to & out of a parking bay plus a longer indy drive using satnav. Trials are going on now in some towns.

It is no wonder some of the reversing and parking evident on our roads, or carparks, is so dire.
Both of those are already in the training / test.
In the main its the people that had had a licence for a while & were taught under "drive like this to pass your test & then drive how you want" method.
Now if you have a good instructor they teach you to drive for life & not just the test. Saddly most people think that the cost of lessons is to high & just want the minimum amount of lessons to just pass the basic test. If you consider that once you have your full licence you have it till your 70 or older the life time cost is pennies a day (6p per day if you pass at 17 with the average number of hours).

Yes, I did wonder about that, when I learned to drive, thats what it was-learning to drive, I often wonder if some new drivers just want to "learn to pass the test" and then forget all that and drive like their mates.
Over here, once the test is passed, they have to display an A for Apprentice driver, and they have to stick to the wet weather speedlimits irrespective of road conditions.
You occasionally see an A plater driving like a DH.
I also wonder if the newer generation of drivers take pride in their driving? I remember the old public information ads on the telly about driving-Reginald Molehusband and his parking problems sticks in my memory

I was given the nickname Wendel Spanswick nearly 30 years ago and it has stuck. A new guy started working in the factory and kept calling me Wendel, when I question him why he did this he looked really embarrassed as he thought it was my real name. Apparently on his first day he had asked the leading hand the way to the canteen and the leading hand had pointed to me as I walked out the door and said " Follow Wendel Spanswick", a tagline from the Carlsberg advert at the time, turns out the new guy had never seen the advert and was also very gullable.
The rest of the team thought it was hilarious and it got to the point that even my time cards had Wendel Spanswick printed on them.
