Another storage thread

ok at the minute I keep my collection of 100+ Mt2,3&4 taper shank drills in one of those fileing cabinates with lots of 40mm deep draws. But the weight of the drills are pushing the cabinate to the verge of collapse.

Has anyone built any ingenious storage solutions for large drills?

I dont really want to stand them in a pice of ply with holes in, as I wouldn't be able to arrange them to look neat and tidy due to varying size / length combinations (I'm a bit OCD with things like this)

What about using a old snapon tool box they have strong draws I'm going to see if I can get one of the stacking units snapon

get some angle and drill a row of holes to suit the drills rivet it to your drawer bottom and slide all the drills in order flat

Do you mean rivet angle into the existing draws? It's the cabinate that is buckeling under the weight not the draws.

Map draws would be ideal and would solve many other storage problems but sadly I strugeling for room anyway.

Are your cabinets the bisley type meant for paper filing?

I thought of gluing ply to the sides of mine to stiffen them up.

That's the ones, the sides are buckeling out and the draw runners are buckeling.

Now that's interesting as I'm currently looking for one of those for the very purpose.

Yeah it the real thing, I just think I've pushed it a bit too far. It's not just drills in there that are causing the problem but they are the worst cooperate. If I put all the contence on the scales I would not be surprised if it was over 150kg

If you can drop across any of the old blueprint style drawer units, they can handle a fair bit of weight, and have fairly shallow, wide drawers. Pretty much perfect for the task.
