The Like button

But is a post that just says "I agree" any better, I check my alerts and if it says X liked your post but its not in the New Posts search I know no one has added any useful dialogue. It used to be annoying to click New Posts to find "Yes" or "^^^^^^^" and nothing else.

I use it sparingly, and I'd agree in the main but sometimes it seems like the most appropriate thing to do

I would disagree on the basis its way to easy to just click a button rather than engage in a sensible online conversation. I very rarely click the Like button myself,

If a post is liked it also shows agreement and confirmation of a comment witch is especially usefull when a member asks how to do something or what equipment to buy.

sometimes the like button is good, as you can use it to show agreement, rather than spamming the forum with replies, as you know that the more posts they get,the more chance there is of going off at a tangent

If there was a rtech-are-the-bestest-welders-ever button i think it would get so much use that the next iphone would have to put one next to the home button

i think there is a genuine need for a 'thank you hotrodder/technicAl for that piece of concise info no one else could even guess about' button

a. show I have read the post and agree with what the poster has said.
b. show that I like the joke/humour
c. show appreciation for an informative post, or a post where I have learned something.

If I posted "well said" and , and "thanks for posting that-very useful" in the cases of a, b and c my post count would skyrocket, and the forum threads could get over extended if everyone posted an acknowledgement, when you like a post, it does not show up as an additional post to a thread so you have no need to look in to a thread you find of interest only to find the new post contributes nothing.

In that case, we need an "Mmm, cast iron" button

That's exactly what I do (normally in this case, I would just like your post)

Saves repeating the same point, or you like the humour of the post or appreciate the work. I think it's quite a good thing instead of replying "^^+1".
