im on the point of setting up a small workshop in my garage for doing some tig welding jobs, im a aircraft welder by day but want to do a bit of my own stuff, just wondering whats the best way to get word about?? aiming at doing stuff for motor bikes push bikes alloy wheels anything alloy stainless or titanium really!

get some cards printed and drop them off at local places that would probably use that type of service at 1st then maybee the odd bit of advertising in a local paper. a small one will do to see how it goes. i started a small hire business with a 3 quid advert every week in a local paper and shotblasting for another few quid /obviously advertising costs more now

Have you tried the facebook groups, there are a few for the wrexham area? (I'm in between wrexham and mold)

It's free so it's got be worth a go, You've lost nothing if it doesn't work.

You could put up a listing on eBay as well. I've used some similar services through auctions like that. What sort of stuff is welded on an aircraft these days - brackets etc?

ye was thinking about the facebook thing, im not on facebook but could set up a page to try advertise a service I guess. I don't work for airbus,i work for a company on the airbus site that service business jets, I do sheetmetal and welding there.

No, I work for a company that does factory automation systems (eurotherm) as a field service engineer, though we do have some stuff in Airbus.

A couple of guys I know used to work at Raytheon, and I know quite a few at Airbus local to me. (Unsurprising given its probably the biggest employer locally!)

ye def keep me in mind I hope to be up and running in jan having my garge rewired at moment for a 32amp supply for welder, iv decide to go for the jasic set and see how much work I get not too much outlay straight off as there is other kit ill be buying too

not sure what to think of them brazing rods, def wouldn't recommend for cracked alloy wheels though

Not for structural damage, filling kerb rash

I have a stainless tank which i need modifying to add heating elements for heating stripping chemicals and changing the drain to a stainless fitting or blanking off. Nothing urgent as i am just getting going so our schedules should coincide. I am into powder coating and do a bit of porting work so will be great to have a go to guy for specialist welding. My old man was a plane guy, he was in avionics so i know you guys tend to be very good at what you do.

is/was there a guy called clint Reilly working at your place Mark?

I wouldn't say I know him well, but he used to drink in my local some years back (I think he lives in Mold now?) . He used to work for Raytheon, but I don't know if it was the business jets side.

My mate aidy Gittins from Caergwrle also worked at Raytheon for a few years.

I know aidy he has contracted a few times at are place, I know who clint is, used to be into his rallying, think he is some sort of boss at Raytheon now, do you drink in the red?

Never went to the red much, my usual boozers were in Caergwrle (castle/halfway) though since our nipper came along I don't get out much now! (Plus the pubs are a bit **** now)

I quite fancy trying the millstone in penyffordd for food, I understand it's been done out recently?

I used to drink all the time ound caergwrle prob bout ten years now as I grew up in Ffrith, your right bout it been **** in the pubs now though shame really as had some great nights there you will prob no a good mate of mine shaun consendine.
as for the mill I went there sunday for tea was very nice but the sunday menu was a bit limited for choice, would imagine worth trying in the week or on a sat, the mill is my local really now, when its open that is
