wonder if anyone has tried to make one using a normal gas lens and cut up glass test tubes. they seem to made from borosilicate glass which I understand is the same stuff that pyrex is

You'd need to run an internal thread inside the glass to screw onto a regular gas lens, so no,

The CK pyrex cup fits to the collet by a push on method over an o-ring to suit the CK gas saver collet so you still have to buy the CK gas saver kit to start with.

I have wondered for a while why people don't make their own glass shrouds, My mate was an industrial glass blower making all sorts of weird and wonderful laboratory apparatus, Pyrex tubing is readily available cheap in all sorts of sizes and not difficult to cut, Check out ebay.Some glass shrouds just fit on an O ring, proably silicon, not beyond the wit of man to adapt something

^^^^yeah thats my way of thinking, although Im a beginner with TIG welding, it won't make any difference to the quality of my work, but I do like tinkering and "bodging" things, and have a lathe, it would be rude not to try and make one some time in future. ...... but dont hold your breathn waiting as tit could be years before it happens

Ive always nearly always found WF to be cheaper than most in the US.
the 3 series pyrex kit is $26 there vs $35 in arczone, before discount.what did you pay?
