Some questions for you as you have worked on more roofs than I have had hot dinners Have you ever known a flat roof NOT leak?
And why do they make them so flat? Why not a bit of a slope? Even a small one so the water doesn't pool? Just wondering the obvious!!!

I've always wondered that, especially with those awful dormers they fit to old terraced houses.

I have no idea about this, but isn't it nice to see work that looks like its been done properly? It just looks right and there's no other explanation I can give!
Incidentally, when I had to supervise contractors building our office years ago, the flat roof wasn't actually flat, it did have a very slight slope, and then thin concrete slabs over the top of the felt, which were cast in one then had the edges broken to separate them.

its not just a matter these days of picking the phone up getting someone decent and they turn up your. best knowing someone or someone that has had a job done and get the roofers number . ring him up and say he was recomended by mr x u may have to wait to get it done but its worth it .

I did a lot of research & phoning around when I got mine done a couple of years ago. One that didn't get the job gave me a quote over the phone without even seeing the roof! .
What impressed me about the chap who did the job was when I asked about EPDM covering was although he could fit it he said it was more suited to commercial (he'd done local schools etc.) and standard felt would be more suitable for my application. Someone who advises a customer what's best for a job rather than how they can make the most money out of someone gets my vote.

Yes but you still get ponding. Either the regs or the roofer are rubbish!

I agree every one I have seen has a lake on it!

its not the roofers fault .if there wooden trusses and there not set right or twisted and boarded over u will get ponding ,also the wooden roof trusses sag with weight and age because there not well suported just look at most piched and tiled roofs and they nearly all sag in the middle . i re roofed my house with slate and had to pack some of the roofing lats up by an inch because of the beams sagging

Fair comment, but a roofer that cares about his reputation wouldn't take the job on.

Can feel your pain on that front. Roofers seem to be even more blessed with the ability to p*ss people off than sparky's or builders, (no disrespect to the chaps on here ). Looks like we're going to have to resort to the one who I know will do it simply for the fact that I know he'll do it. The fact they lather so much mortar on makes me think of pikey work each time I see it, (they're not, might I add), but I think I can live with that just as long as it's done.

Don't think I'd retain the will to live for much longer if I had to attempt dealing/conversing with, or simply attempting to get a hold of, yet another roofer. You'd think redoing ridge tiles would be pretty much second nature and straight forward for a roofer. Seems I'm wrong though. The last one I spoke to was being mentally clubbed to death in my mind as I was speaking to him. What a condescending, lying **** that chap was.
