Phone call from HSE

I had a phone call from the hse on Tuesday saying they were updating there records I have never had a visit off them but they new the sort of things I did they were asking about the booth and paints i use Etc.

Has anyone else ever had a phone call ?? kind of guess I am going to get a visit from them soon (better get my place in order)

I got a couple of guys from the HSE turning up on my doorstep out of the blue because I reported a burglary to the police.

You're lucky if you got a phone call first.

I never believe anyone on the phone nowadays, I've never known HSE to ring up, its usually an unannounced visit or a letter,
Some time ago I had a call, " Hello Mr *******, this is HMRC can you please confirm your UTR* and your date of birth" when I refused she said "well this call can't continue without that information" I just said ok and hung up, never heard another word.

*UTR for those that don't know, is a Unique Tax Reference that all self employed people have

Yep, sounds very fishy.
I must agree with Paul, there are so many chancers these days who ring up, or email, I ignore the lot of them until they are stood in front of me, or write me a letter.

Had a fair bit to do with HSE over the years and can't think of a time they have made a phone call unless it was after a visit/inspection/investigation.

Anyone annoyed with you? perhaps reported you for using 2k without the correct ventilation etc.

i had vodafone on wanting to peddle me a new deal and he wouldnt take no for an answer he asked to confirm my details and i said no same as u ,well we cant continue without the info i said thank christ for that now will u bog off

Haha, it's getting to be every day now someone ringing wanting to sell stuff. I have to be careful what i say as sometimes it will be new enquiries etc, so ringing from unknown numbers, but most times a new number will be a chancer.

For example....Someone rang yesterday... Dow Corning...how much silicone do you use a year Sir. Er, none? Not much good for sticking steel together.
You'd think that would be the end of the conversation wouldn't you, he talked to himself for 5 minutes before i told him he'd be best trying someone else.

we have a full spray bake booth all tested and up to date so not worried about that its the rest of the work shop they could moan about

Local coal mine I worked at mines inspectorate always rang to say they were coming for a vist. Usually 3 to 4 days before hand. Just enough time to get everything sorted which I always thought strange. It's the same for the school and also DEFRA! Would it not be better just to turn up unannounced?

I worked at a company where the in house safety men and directors always came round the sites on suprise visits. The two receptionists at HQ always made a point of saying to them when they left the office 'Oh, where to today Mr so-and-so'....
If you treat the receptionists nicely, you would always get a phone call a couple of hours before they arrived, just enough time for a spruce-up.
Management always wondered why the receptionists had 150+ bottles of booze of the site managers every xmas

not so much as dodgy stuff just lots of stuff clutter i guess, no signs etc will be sorting it all out next week i guess as they now charge for there time if they find anything wrong

It would be much better but then they would actually have to do a proper inspection and follow up on failures.

We had someone from BT Openreach ring the other day, asking how old our phone system was as they were "doing work in the exchange and needed to know as older systems needed different equipment to test". I was dubious, shouldn't matter when we have a fibre optic ISDN 30! Anyway, she gave me a number, but totally shot herself in the foot when she said she was on extension 8. Googled the number and it was for BT Business, not Openreach, and spoke to them and they knew nothing.
I'm guessing this was a test call to see if we were worth trying to sell a new phone system, if it was over 3 years old then the next call we'd have had would have been from a sales person.

Make sure all your kit is tagged for HAVS and the log books are filled in, we got pulled on that a while ago.
