I live in a very remote area. Broadband is atrocious. To make matters even worse the armoured phone cable runs along the ground. When it was first laid it was fine but about 1 mile away the idiots at BT laid it across a gate opening. My neighbour is converting a barn there. The road surface is Roman covered with chippings across his gate.
Each time a van or a tractor crosses the entrance the connection drops. The armoured cable isnt strong enough.
I can't dig down very deep at all. I would like to run a conduit or something about 30' long across the entrance. I can 1/2 bury it in a very shallow trench but that is it.
Scaffolding pole is too large a diameter - dont want his car to have to bump across each time. Is there a smaller diameter pipe I can use just a strong?
I also thought of maybe hydraulic hose like used on drain jetters etc. Would that crush with a cement lorry going over it?

Why can't you dig down deep enough to bury a scaffold pole?

I think hyd hose would flatten with that weight, some thick wall pipe of a smaller outer dia than scaff pipe would be the answer, like the old steel water pipe..about 20mm?

Would normal conduit be strong enough? It is the chippings that are the problem!
My local BT engineer will sort the cable side out.

depends on who owns the road leading to it and its length

I think anything outside your house (or it might be garden as well) is up to BT.

It is the chippings that are the problem!

Can't you beg,borrow or steal an SDS or Kango drill to do it?

I presume you have done some detective work on this? to come to the conclusion that backs up this theory?

why not take a pic and and send it to BT and complain about it.

As to BT resolving it this isnt the only fault. There is a fault at the exchange as well but after 25 visits - yes 25 - they still haven't managed!!!
I invested in TooWay satellite broadband. What a con that was. Totally unlimited they said. Was awesome for the first 3 months - 24mb - but now they throttle it. Speeds of 800k except 1am to 6am!!!

Do you get on with the neighbours? Surely if they are doing a barn conversion there will be a mini digger there at some point and it would take less than half an hour for them to dig a trench stick a piece of pipe in and cover it back up. With a digger they will be able to get the pipe 12-18 below the surface without any issues. It may be just a case of bunging the driver £30 if you could plan it when they finish work on a Saturday. You often see cable coduit laying on the side of the road when they are doing roadworks then ones I've seen recently are bright purple with ribs(oo eer). A piece of that would be ideal

I do feel your pain, I lived in a house previously where we were told we would never had broadband yet we were 10mins from the centre of Reading! I have just set up broadband for someone local who is on our exchange but much further away than we are and I was surprised just how slow it was. We are rural but only about 30yds from the exchange.

Try telling your problem to this man, why is cable on ground anyway? don't forget exchange visits, speed, BT package missed appointments ? if not you are in the minority

My neighbour (Even though 1 mile away) is great and is a builder. he has a mini digger. He has had to get permission to dig as it is a Roman road and it is in a National Park. Once that comes through he will be laying a proper culvert and it can go through there - that wont be until next year though!
It is BT home. WHY they are called British Telecom when all you speak to are muppets in India is beyond me.
In fairness I now deal with a great bloke in Belfast who keeps hounding them for me but 25 visits is taking the mick.
Trouble is even when the cable is sorted there will STILL be a fault at the exchange - at least then though they can't keep harping on about the damn cable.

Yes that is what I need - how can I join it though? I need 30' and too remote to do any welding. Unless I use 4 car batteries in series!!!

u only need 2 length of steel water pipe and its threaded on the end with a coupler
