I think so, it worked perfectly and everything moved freely when done. I did this in April still have a scar...

Oh, Kim it wont be a proper scar just a faint line you can find in a mirror when you know were it is and look for it. Perhaps I could / should post some proper scars I have collected over the years My point about the stresses is even if the welds are all good they will be weaker than the original (which gave up) this is why I mention making new sections rather than stitching up the cracks an the stresses, do you feel it might have been under specified at manufacture? If so keep an eye on it now an again

It'll be fine.
I'll keep an eye on it Next time I'll replace a damaged section like that. I personally don't think it's under specified. I wouldn't expect any less from how bent the axle is though.

feint scar will be a good talking point. Folks will never believe you did it while welding your lawn mower back together. probably think you slipped with your mascara brush!!

Done that too lol, nearly took my eye out haha. Also have a big scar on my cheek though.

Nice thread. Good job too. As for the head banging, my workshop is beginning to get that way. I have recently installed a number of items, like a big flypress that has several methods for hitting you in the head. Clearly the arm with the huge balls is not only at perfect head height, it also moves around so it can catch you unawares. The table it's on has sharp corners so when you bend over to pick something up, you have to be super careful. It's also waiting for you on the way up!

The ball arm is the main thing though so it's wrapped in pipe insulation. I also (seriously) deliberately tap my head against it every time I walk past. I reckon if I do it often enough, its position will become firmly embedded into my mind (rather than into my skull).

Lol, sounds like you're my long lost twin, Hate banging my head... or face lol But I always do. Being tall doesn't help.
Love the fly press, I've got a normal hydraulic press but it would be nice to have something like that for forming steel

HI, whenever I have seen flypresses in machine shops they have always been mounted high up so the arm and ball swing around above head height. Had you thought of that? Because it seems a steep learning curve at the moment.
