at the front yes, at the rear where I assume we are talking, its not so bad.
Excellent thank you.Thermalite syle of block, that lay direct onto the concrete foundation, different manufacturers make the blocks in different sizes, Because of their width they span what will be the Cavity above DPC. depending on how you lay them will determine the width of the cavity. The very big advatage is you build up in no time at all,- because of there size. heres a link to Celcon, but if you google "foundation blocks" you`ll see a load of links. When you order remember you dont need them for the outer and inner skin- they do both, I`ve know people order twice as many as they needed.!!!!!!

For a limited time, till May 2016 I think, you can go out 8m if your house is detached.I'm just getting an orangery done because of all the comments about conservatorys. It was a waste of time, too hot in summer, freezing in winter, that one was half brick, half glass with poly carb roof.
The new one will be much more brick, and Celsius glass all round so I'm hoping with a decent radiator we'll be able to use it most of the year round.
Re planning, I was told single storey up to 4m from your house doesn't require planning??
Only if Planning think it will have a detrimental effect on the neighbours.not as simple as that... there are criteria to meet as well

Why pay the Planning Department to tell you it doesn't need planning approval when it is all laid out on the Planning Portal website.Don't mess around get down the town hall and seek official confirmation in letter format that a job needs B.regs, nothing or full planning. Location matters, use matters, frankly it depends

Last time I enquired our local planning department were charging £160 to check whether your plans need approval or not!
Are you paying the planners or the customer? In the main for your future and continued legal protection. I know two different jobs were the owners lost everything they had in battles with planning, so as a result if I aint happy to knock it down....

I just think it's very easy to tell other people to spend if it's not coming out of your pocket.
I have built numerous outbuildings, a Sun room, workshops, a summer house, porches and an extension that was over 120m2 on our current and previous property, all without PP or having submitted plans to the planning authority to see whether they required PP.
These were all completed under Permitted Development. If I had submitted plans for the planners to check I would be well over £2000, maybe £3000, out of pocket for the same result.
