There's another problem with wet tiling,it does need to be done outside really,what if its raining outside though?

If i was to hire a tiler I'd want him to use the machine out of doors,can't afford to have dust flying about due to the nature of my illness.

I was mixing mortar a while back, wind was a bit blowy and blowing some dust into the house through the windows. old guy wouldn't shut them but kept on about the dust making him cough. I gave him a mask and got on with it. he seemed happy enough.

im asthmatic so wear a mask pretty much all the time when dealing with anything dusty or fine powder, cement, tile adhesive, grout, plaster etc. health is paramount, especially things like lungs. watched my grandfather die from emphasyma (spelling) so want to avoid going the same way

As it's a wet cutter you don't get much dust. We have them being used 3 or 4 days a week.
Yes you can get a little spray some times but certainly not enough to make me take it outside.
Mist tines excess mess is due to too much water in the trough. Think of a milling machine or band saw, its just to cool, not swamp it.

The larger ones can through out more.

well, decision is made, I have told the guy selling it I will be picking it up either tomorrow or Saturday. I am looking at moving house and now thinking buying rather than move to another rented house so it will come in handy even if only to do my own kitchen/bathroom when I move.

see, now if a customer 'told me' to do something I probably would have packed my bags and done one there and then. however if a customer 'asks' me to do something I will usually try and accommodate, unless its something that affects safety like being asked to run some twin and earth down the garden with no protection to run a water feature. customer wasn't happy when I asked if he would like to sample the electric shock he would get if he was a bit off with the trowel when putting his plants in next year...

why do you think they are wet ? there is no dust what so ever if you do a lot without changing the water it ends up a paste

I honestly haven't seen a lot of direct evidence to back that up, trust me when I say I do have the experience to hold my view.

You have the experience to say with authority that qualified or trained tradesmen are good at their jobs, literally without exception? I've seen and worked with shedloads of qualified/trained tradesmen, (and I do use that term loosely, might I add), whom I wouldn't pee on if they were on fire. Arsey attitudes in general, abysmal customer attitude, quality of, (I only use this word because nothing else springs to mind offhand, but not because the word is actually applicable), workmanship which leaves more than a lot to be desired etc., etc. Seriously, if a lot of the crap from professionals which I've seen over the years is the standard, then all that I can say is Thank God we have so many amateurs around.

There are some top chaps out there too, but I can honestly say that their levels of perfectionism would apply whether they be 'professional' or amateur. Training does not a tradesman make. It merely hones characteristics and abilities which they already possess. A sloppy beggar will always be a sloppy beggar no matter how much you attempt to teach them though.

Do one? By Christ, that's one of the most juvenile expressions I can honestly think of. That's the type of crap arsey women or youngsters come out with, not mature blokes. For someone who appears to be knocking on a bit, you honestly put some youngsters to shame with your general attitude and approach.

A wet saw is wet for good reason, and not just to keep the cutting blade cool. I'm sure you're just arguing the toss for the sake of it though, as you seem prone to do on most occasions.

I've had a Plas Plug wet tile cutter for 15 years or more , it's handy for cutting L shaped tiles rather than breaking them into two pieces & for cutting V or triangular shapes as well as cutting a gap as square ended open " U " in the middle of a tile .
If you don't force things you can also cut champhers on the cutters that have tilt table tops which is handy if you want a bull nose on a quality ceramic tile rather than the cheaper pottery clay type tiles and the manufacturers don't make them any more ( fairly common these days ) .

They are also good for cutting slivers of tiles less than 1/4 inch wide. I found it invaluable for cutting wet room slip resist Pilkington tiles both flat & skirting board ones as well as bull nosed ones because the clean edge they give is good , less likely to chip underfoot & makes domestic cleaning of the floor more effective ..

It has also been used on more than one occasion as thin metal wet table saw to cut steel , aluminum and brass to shape .

If you put an architrave /bead tile above or in tiles to give them a decent look they are brill for cutting angles on on the archritraves / beads. Though you may need to play a bit sometimes to get an even looking set of angles if the corners and returns are not square .

I think you'll find the expression 'Do One' is cockney and stems back to 1979 if you have never heard it then search youtube for 'Minder' ie terry McCann and Arfer Daly.

Well all the tillers I have known who do it for a living use electric tile cutters now days. They may now use it all the time but it is often used. My sisters bathroom was the last bloke I saw he was using one for all the cuts. He used it outside while doing the floor and inside for the walls.

Can I say I have no illusion about "qualified" meaning competent, it means they have passed a test at some point in time and I have met enough incapable qualified persons in my time. Someone who gets paid for a task is by definition "professional" in the said task as they earn money from the task so a cowboy is in fact a professional. My issue is charging yourself out as a tiling contractor without knowing all about the correct tools and techniques for the job, find out first then practice someone who hasn't the money to book " a competent person, who puts themselves forward as a tiler" hasn't often the spare cash to pat twice

again, I have not once called myself a tiling contractor, my business is property maintenance and improvements. If a customer wants to book me based on pictures of my previous work then that is up to them. I not for one moment claiming I am qualified in anything except being an electrician, however, as with many others I am competent at other tasks. Now, this may co.e as a revelation to you, but you don't need an I depth knowledge of every single tool used in an Industry to be good at one part of it. But I can see I'm not going to win with you, you seem set to insist that because I cannot claim a qualification in tiling then I must be incapable of doing it. From here on In I shall merely sit and watch your comments with a smile, ad I'm earning money from these jobs and keeping my customers happy regardless of your opinions
