what's a decent price to have a 2.5Mx3M kitchen floor tiled? I've done a few now but everyone is telling me i am far to cheap and will be putting customers off so wanna know how much others have been charged so I can still be cheap but look a bit more competetive

that would depend on what sort of floor it is wooden or concrete . also how level is it if its concrete .and if wood it will need 6mm ply laying down before tiling . is the room empty or are u cutting round units 2 many variables to give a n acurate answer

room is relatively square, quite flat, wooden floor but already have enough ply to lay down and screw to boards etc. Have to make about 6 straight cuts in this one. Customer has got tiles in, I already have adhesive and a bag of grout paid for from last job I did. Will have to move fridge and washer out of the way and pull old vinyl up too

I hate tiling so put a massive price in, if I get it I do it and take the money, no loss if I don't

what do you consider massive? I've never had the work done and had to pay for it, so have just been quoting enough to keep the balance happy, but if I can charge more and still be considered cheap then I will

that's the wrong way to go about it you need to add in the cost for everything using stock you have is fine but charge the going rate for it, you shouldn't be doing favours like giving free materials in with paid jobs.

It's one of those jobs that's not rocket science so there is always a 'handy lad' around that will do it for cash in hand and undercut the professional.

I agree that the stock I have off another job would not be given free, I would charge for it and treat it as a perk of the job.

Is it big tiles or small tiles, makes a lot of difference.

Perhaps the easiest way is to work out how much you want for a days work after tax, petrol and other costs and then divide the work into that, for example if you are happy to earn £150 a day and if it's 1 days work then charge around £200 for the labour and add on the cost of the stuff you use and you won't be far off.

My Grandfathers favourite saying was I would rather do one job for £100 than two of the same for £50 each, you may get less work if you charge more but the end result can be the same financially.

Tilers just use a cost per square metre unless there is something really odd about the job. When I say cost that excludes the tiles. I was talking to my plumber next door neighbour about it a few months ago. Pity I can't remember the price. Though it will vary up and down the country.

That's actually not far off what many trades charge nowadays, people tend not to realise that when they are given a combined parts and labour price.

I did our kitchen - about that size - a few years back. The tiling took a day, pulling the old vinyl up (they were like vinyl tiles) took me about 3 days and nights. I swore id never do it again. Have you checked the vinyl is going to come up ok first?

In my employed job I average £150 a day so no cost or outlay, when subbing in my van and my tools its £200 - £250 and self employed its £250+

I will do a combi swap for £600 (not including boiler obviously) and they are an easy day, but to be honest I don't really bother these days, my own van runs out of tax end of this month and it's probably going after that. Im getting old and lazy

that's the reason it is being tiled, old vinyl is coming away from the floor and dog is chewing it

I'd be interested to know what to pay, one of the jobs for the new house will be a new kitchen, and I'm wondering if I'd be just as well doing it myself (tiling that is) rather than getting somone in. There's a tile showroom on the estate here that I'm sure can give me some friendly rates on tiles...

tiling isn't difficult I find as ling as you have a good clean surface to start with, and draw some lay out lines for the first few tiles, use the spacers and keep everything nice and square. If its your first time doing it avoid the rapid set adhesive too, that doesn't make things any easier

about £30-35/ m2 ... that's to an empty room... small room like that probably £35-40/m2, plus prep... ply/self leveller/sealer etc

u wouldnt be getting 200 quid a day if u worked for me at that rate not that it mattered i do my own
