weld-els, UK equivalent, turbo exhaust manifold

I'm considering a one off (maybe a couple of one offs!) manifold for my evil little Turbo Cinquecento.

Books on the ancient art of turbocharging tend to be American, where they use Weld-els, which are sort of heavy duty commercial plumbing fittings in schedule 40 (no idea what that is in English or metric!).

Anyone any idea of a supplier for a UK equivalent? Ideally I'm after 421, but a suitable alloy steel would do.

Weldable fittings are available here in mild or stainless steel, and 'schedule' sizes are usually recognised. Try your local BSS as a starting point.

Hi mate, I have done the same as you using 'weld-els' You can get stainless pipe from http://www.aalco.co.uk/index.html which is in Liverpool on the dock road I think or if you want mild steel you can get it from just outside Wrexham (cheapest place locally) http://www.fwb.co.uk/

Re read what you are planning on, no easy task.
Bends and straights of suitable diameter can be obtained from places that make exhausts or a local race place such as Demon Tweaks, expensive there though.

Goingback some years now so a bit rusty, got to be very careful on what you do with the turbo and related back pressure/constriction. What you think is the bees knees and free flowing may well have an adverse effect, certainly on torque.
How about whiplash at 40 in 3rd, animal! How on earth they used to get on with 500hp+ 2WD is frightening.

All lengths should be equal.
Last turbo pipework i did was making a downpipe to twin exhaust, V6 single turbo. Got hold of a Perkins turbo diesel downpipe 70mm o/d and butchered to suit homemade twin exhaust.

Yeah. I'll use standard exhaust 304 in 2" for the cat section backwards, but I recon the exhaust stuff is both in the wrong grade and too thin for the turbo manifold itself.

I'll be using what seems to be current turbo practice: the turbo manifold equal length, no larger than the exhaust ports (for velocity), thick wall for strength (in this application the turbo is supported by the manifold -- OK, it's only a titchy GT15, but even so) and heat retention (I may get it ceramic coated as well); the exhaust 2", large radius bends where necessary, no cheating.

Generally the rule seems to be "take everything you thought you knew about NA manifolds and exhausts and throw it out of the window"!

Before the blow up (immediately after I'd overtaken a 7 Series BMW) it was putting out 115 bhp (crank), now it'll have a "proper" ECU rather than the old one and a piggy back bodge to handle fuelling, MPI rather than SPI and an extra injector, and toughened internals. If I can get 130bhp out of it I'll be very happy. (And a few BMWs will be extremely peed off.

I may make the exhaust and repair a crash damaged 4 into 2 into 1 (for my NA 1242 Cinq) before I start on the manifold to get my eye in!
