ive got about 12 double sockets and a few singles to sink into the wall.

they are plaster coated blocks.
dont seem to be breeze as they are harder then that.

maybe cinder block ?

ive looked into getting one of those EBS from armeg for doing the job.
but some say they work and others say these are crap.
any of you had any experience with them. ?

i dont really want to sit there with club hammer and chisel doing 35mm boxes.

i did think of another way. but dunno if it would work or not.
using an old router and a old TCT cutter.

any advice.......

I did 4 on our local 'as hard as hell' bricks in about an hour or so.

Loads of holes with an SDS and then break out the remaining with a chisel, was easier than the nightmare I was expecting.

ive got the full set of them and only ever used em once .there 2 slow i just cut the soft plaster back with a 3inch bolster and the brick or block with a sds drill herehttps://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=bosch+gbh+4+dfe just buy a cheap one if u cant aford owt decent

I do the same as bs. I have the single box sinker and hole cutter, don't think its armeg but identical.

cut plaster back and then sds the hard stuff.

I use a titan (screwfix) 5kg sds plus and it is as good as the Makita my father has. Cost me 50 quid in a sale but think its a bit more now. Still cheap though I think

Breeze is cinder block, that is what Americans call it. Most likely the blocks are concrete, a lot harder and denser than breeze but also cheaper which is why a lot use them and a router and cutter will soon burn out or knacker bearings. I use the drill then a cold chisel to smash the stuff out.

i dont think il bother with one of those EBS's then.

i have a makita hammer/chisel drill.

not as big and heavy as the ones in the link, but it chisels fine.

yer i guess it wouldnt do a router any good. and i dont fancy knackering my dewalt routers.


so i think il make a few templates out of ply.
for double and single sockets.
one the size needed for a single or double socket with the two holes in them that align where the fixing holes are in the boxes.
this would allow you to place them on the wall and put them where you want the hole to be.
use the two holes to drill the fixing holes.
then put the 2nd template on that fixes in the same place but is full of holes.
that you can drill to a set depth you need.
then chisel the lot out with chisel drill.

and if this doesnt work, then ermmm hire a JCB

I use a 70mm TCT SDS hole saw/core bit in the drill and burst the 'plug' out with a round tapered chisel. Then square the round hole up with a 70mm bolster chisel. Each one takes a couple of minutes.

Just don't drill loads of 5ish mm holes and try to "walk" the drill like my dad did because it skipped out, grabbed his trousers and wound its self in leaving probably the biggest bruise I've ever seen.

My personal fav, lots of Holes with the SDS, straight in at 90degrees, then try and link them up by drilling in at an angle so the drill goes into the next one, then clean out with a 70mm leccys chisel and lump hammer, surprising how quick, but neighbours hate it. Back box in, first fix electrics, plastered in if neccessary final elec fix, job done.

i dont have any core bits.
i have holesaws but they be no good for the wall.

ermm right so whats best size holes to drill.
i have a chisel drill set. and a 80mm wide chisel i think too.
i got that one for lifting floor tiles ,quicker then hammer and bolster

I remember my father chopping in a backbox when the brick behind fell out, he went out to apologise to the neighbours then realised there was an entry between the 2 houses so he just had to cement the brick back in.

yea ive been through singe walls before and the neighbours gone spare also using high frequency electric chissels vibrate ornaments of shelves ive done that as well

There are other blocks, Thermalite or Aircrete type but they are so soft you could scrape the box out with your fingernail and can cut them with a panel saw
