Think a lot comes down to how much you want the work!
When young and agile and with few real thoughts of care and responsibility and with a need for all the work you can get you'll bend over backwards and take just about anything.
When you don't need the work as much, can recognise what is not worthwhile for what you'll get, and can see the risks then it changes things a bit.

You want to cut corners?
You don't want to pay sensible money?
You want me to take risks?

Then clear off, I don't need this!

well had a look on the web and found 3 scaffolders local to me, one of which is run by a guy my father went to school with and i go out shooting with. always thought he was a builder

Your right about it being ignored by the young, My friend has a picture of me hanging off the side of scaffolding like a flag - It's at least 40 feet high.
