Large diameter cardboard(?) tube

I am in need of a length of tubing for an interior decorating project.
I need a couple (4 would be better) 6ft lengths of 450mm diameter x(6-10mm)ish thickness tubing.
Cardboard would do - needs to be paintable, so can't really go with plastic pipe - unless it comes in "princess pink".
Steel is too heavy, aluminium is too expensive.

Any idea where I could source some?
I could roll my own, but I would really prefer to find something "off the shelf"

get some of the thin mdf you can bend it has cuts in the back not sure on cost though but you'd have to roll it, never seen cardboard tubes that size

Fibreboard drums are about the right diameter, but never seem one 6' long....

carpet rolls come on tubes similar to what you require, check around some of your local carpet shops.

prob a bit smaller diameter but maybe of use.....

Look for the cardboard formers used as formwork/shuttering to cast circular concrete columns. Link

Ideally bend it round a pre made former, use two thicknesses, glue it and wait for glue to set, available in 6mm and 9mm, so finished project will be 12, or 18mm thick, available in 8X4 and 4X8, grooves cut long ways or short ways, maybe not cheap, but a real pleasure to use.

several suppliers in Yorkshire, its wicked stuff to store as it breaks very easily when handling the wrong way up, when you find a supplier ask what damaged sheets he has.

You could cut two circles out of 3/4 ply and join them together with say 2X1 pse to make a former to bend the MDF round, easy when you know how!!
is there no plastic tubing?? mains gas pipe etc, be expensive i`d imagine

Its a plywood with the grain all facing the same direction. Available in 8x4's and long or short grain.

Pop into Carpet shops,warehouse anywhere they sell carpets and ask for their carpet rolls,these get dumped frequently at the end of every roll of carpet.

Why not spray plastic primer onto plastic pipe and then paint in princess pink. Another thought is spray plastic pipe with glue and wrap with thin card / thick paper so you can paint as cardboard.

I would go for two layers of corrugated cardboard around disc formers. You would have then done quickly, certainly faster than trawling the net for the right thing.

That was my thought, but then i realised the diameter required - no carpet comes on tubes 450mm dia.

bigegg- could you use multiple carpet tubes to get an approximation of what you want? im guessing by the mention of "princess pink" that its a tempory installation?

Just get 5 or 7? tubes from the carpet shops and tape them together and put some wrapping around them a few times.

Newspapers can be had for nothing and then bind the last with brown paper.

450mm wide....no chance.

Nope,just under 1/2 a metre....sorry snoops you was right was calculating in my head rather being lazy in looking it up.

I'm used to inches rather than metres....bloody french.
