gasless flux cored mig welding. am i barking up the wrong tree???

Hello
I'm looking into a mig welder for the usual home projects and am tempted by the lack of use to try gasless.
I carry stick in my van but always end up having to take bits and pieces to my company workshop due to being thin. I am tempted with the usual Clarke models but are they and gasless any good?
Can they weld thin sheets well? 1.5 to 3 mm

hi..gasless wire has it uses..mainly outdoors welding ..clarke welders are ok..1.5 to 3mm should be fine on all the Clarke range .1.5 aint really that thin..but may be look in to 150/170 amp machine and rent a bottle..far better if budget allows...

Thanks. Have access to a couple of mig welders but just want a simple set up for home bodging. Don't fancy having to buy gas for home.

The other question is how nasty is the smoke from it in comparison to stick.

unfortunately flux core wire does indeed produce more fumes than stick...but if you do or doing a lot of it just remember to put a breathing mask on under your welding lid...

Open arc processes (no/self shielding) generally produce a lot more fume. I would say it depends on the consumable as to which is more toxic but either way don't breath it in.

I've welded 1mm with 0.9 fluxcore no probs. Yeah it chucks out fumes n smoke but so does stick-so work outside or in a well ventilated area.With the thin stuff you may have to stopnstart as per vup with MMA(stick). I have a GYS Smartmig-cracking bit of kit. Have a look at weldequips site.
