based on my current experience.of French cars, I am trying to avoid them as much as possible, but after asking the 3 people I know with them, they all say they are brilliant, no problems etc.

the car in question is a 2008 1.6td 207 with 80ish thousand miles, full history through dealer, full mot etc.

I want to know common faults, problems or issues, and is it likely to be as big inside as my.megane is? Mainly boot space is important due to the baby's push chair and other associated things

In my personal opinion..french cars are not that much different from others...one dig thing about them is the rear beam/axle..have a tendency to seize up..and front drop links are rubbish...

Brokenbiker, before you get to excited about the pug 207 read up on the diesel additive system "eolys" on pug diesel cars (and others for that matter) for the dpf filter (pug call it fap) basically its an additive that is added each time you open the filler for fuel top up,its job is to help keep clean the dpf and turn the gas nasties in there to friendlier bits (ha what a joke) its keeped in a container underneath next to fuel tank, when this runs out you can refill yourself although its toxic and not very nice stuff at all so let someone else do it, but, you need pug dealer to reset the system which i believe they rip you off for, at the milage you have listed it could be comming up for renewing
hopefully some one on here who has a pug and knows about this expense will add to this

Not all 207 diesels have eolys so in many cases it's something you don't have to worry about.

My wife's a driving instructor and the last 2 cars have been 207 1.6 diesels

Last one we had from new did 170,000 in 4 years when we sold it. Only major problem with that one is it had a battery drain on the odd occasion every couple of months and could never track it down.

The one we have at the minute we got at 20,000 miles and has now done 100,000. Zero problems on this one. Only thing I can think of it has a tiny oil leak.

The one thing I would avoid is discs on the rear. Our current one even though it's the same model as the last one doesn't have them. The thing is Peugeot did that stupid thing with the 207 when they put rear discs on and put the bearing in the disc.

Never heard of problems with the rear beam on 207's TBH.

pug did drop it from a certain year and just relys on the dpf filter, these cars though that had the system some were leaking from the poor made container, and pug knew this,
but the point being, given the headache BB has had with the meganne, doubt he wants another with a different car

It will soon be in force across the diesel range, if the EU have anything to do with it..

Cost, disc costs more and you are supposed to replace the disc/bearing in one go. Sure the discs actually do last a long time but there is just no need for such a set up.

You should remember that all diesels have the same tech more or less and TBH one thing Peugeot is known for is there long lived diesel engines in cars.

not on the more modern diesels last decent pugs was 8 valve 2litre HDI engines
the newer ones fill the sump with carbon on these with long service intervals you cant remove the EGR valves on the newer ones

I had it's predecessor the 206 with NA diesel as a company car and it got hammered up and down the country for a couple of years with no problems.

As above, Peugeot make good diesels.

it is similar but not the same, adblue has been in the hgv`s for a while now and these poor sods get ripped off when top up comes round, as you say it is going into all new diesel engined vehicles soon, (this year i think), but, in the attempt to cut emmisions down, undesirable chemicals have to come into play, part of the make up is urine, now if thats not taking the **ss i dont know what is, but jokes aside are we going to see some nasty side effect`s from this in the future like most other so called good ideas

not cheap if getting filled at a dealer about £18 a litre but can be bought cheaper on fleabay
some have said just fill the tank with p-ss works just the same

Then i had a 306 that was nothing but trouble, every week something different. I got it cos the gear box went in my vectra and guess what, 6 months later it needed a gearbox! The hdi/Dturbos are supposed to be good cars. I now have a 206 wich i got off my mum, she had it from new. Its an 05 plate, never failed an mot, easy to work on/maintain. Only thing thats ever gone wrong with it was the clutch release bearing became worn, common problem apparently. Got that replace and obviously had the clucth done aswell.

So first pug you wrote off, and the second you bust the gearbox after wreaking the gearbox in a vectra. Sounds like a problem with the driver rather than the car

My wife has a 306 2ltr Hdi/Dturbo, loves it to bits, it's great to drive, fairly quick and easily returns 50+mpg and it's not exactly flat where I live. The main fault with the 306 is the rear bush on the front wishbone fails too often, replace with the much beefier part off the peugeot partner van instead, it just bolts straight on.

If you go for a diesel try and avoid dual-mass-flywheels, expensive pieces of junk in my opinion that fail far too soon, don't know if petrols have them as well ?

right, just done the logical thing, had a look further afield, trade centre wales have 2 showrooms, the focus I saw was in one, there is another focus in the other showroom, still 08 model but 1.8 petrol, claims 40+mpg which is better than the megane, and the insurance comes down 20 odd quid a month, so essentially my overall monthly outgoings go up 40 instead of 60, but fuel is cheaper etc. going to look Saturday and test drive a few models, then get deposit together
