filling in holes in plastic stock

put a sling swivel on the escort semi auto earlier, except I didn't think things through. instead of taking the butt pad off and looking inside I just whacked a 4mm drill into it, hit a moulded fin that runs the length of the stock, drill wandered badly, ended up with an oversize hole that wont accept the stud.

I then did it properly, started with a 1mm pilot that ran into the rib then a 3mm hole and wound the stud in, plenty strong enough for what I need.

now I have a hole in the stock that is likely to let moisture and dirt into the hollow stock, there is a nut in there that holds the stock onto the action so want to seal it back up to stop rust.

I was thinking just melt a bit of black plastic onto a bit of tin foil then pack it into the hole while its still hot enough, file back to shape afterwards?

anyone got any better ideas? don't really want to use silicone, too messy.

the wall thickness of the stock is 2mm, assuming its abs, looks moulded

Other than that ebays full of plastic end caps for plugging holes.

I doubt you will have much joy with resin. ABS will be a lot softer in comparison and pure resin sets rock hard like glass. Your first suggestion will be better and better still if you have a soldering iron to stick in the hole and melt the mating surface first before the pour.

As BS said Araldite is good a small amount of wood stain will mix with it when mixed warm & pour it in, leave to dry a sand down

not a wooden stock, just a hollow abs moulding. will try with some epoxy first, if it doesn't set or take properly I will use fibreglass resin. I can put some tape over the hole and fill from the inside

Put tape on inside and fill from the outside, then rub down any excess.

Tap the oversize hole and buy or make a bit of threaded rod and locktite it in.

Look for Milliput at an art/modelling shop. It's like a cross between Araldite and modelling clay - mix 2 parts of the stuff and fill hole. It can be sanded, painted, drilled and even tapped after it sets.
