really nasty . I've had lots of stuff nicked over the years , car for instance ,scaffold from my yard ,but nothing like your the value of your stuff . Why do people think they have aright to other folks belongings ?
It's time for security me thinks . Mark all your new tools with those letter stampers [initials ], rig up some sort of a alarm system . I see they have some nice little GPS alarm systems now [ mine were £29 ] , 12v power source ,activate by your mobile phone [put a cheap SIM in the alarm],rig up to a pressure switch or sensor and your phone receives a text message with co-ordinates . I use a 7" 3G tablet for communication .

The pikeys were doing the rounds in my street a while ago , my yard was done twice in 5 years . I had to alarm the garage and fit CCTV around the property to be on the safe side .
Christ ! the things we have to do nowadays to protect whats rightfully our's !

Rickt,what you gonna do if they're wearing balaclavas? cameras are just a waste of time and even if you do get a look at the face it has to be 100% definition full on profile and those cameras cost a bit.

What your going to spend on camera equipment spend it on robust inpenetrable material.

Fort knox is the answer to protection on your van/building..top/front/back and sides.

I feel for you. Snap on gear is stupidly expensive though.

I just managed to recover a £260 odd quid Draper cabinet from a "friend" who I'd lent it to. About 2 years ago he had a falling out with another friend, and did a bunk with all his gear, and my cabinet. Then had a total mental breakdown and had to be sectioned. I did my best to contact him, but to no avail, until recently when I finally found him. I was not best amused when he told me to leave, and wasn't prepared to discuss the matter. Especially considering the amount I'd done to help him in the past.
Then had a phone call from the guys who bought a lot of his gear off him, saying that they were "sure they left the cabinets in the shared unit" - funny that, considering I was there the day after his bunk and there was no sign. So I wrote him a somewhat threatening letter, basically pointing out that it was still *his* problem, not someone else's, and if he didn't produce my cabinet PDQ, I'd sue him for it. Now I'd helped him in the past when he had to sue someone, so I knew that he was a bit up s*it creek here.
All of a sudden on Tuesday I had a call to say that they had found my toolbox! Yay!



The top two units I had already, and used to ride in the back of the landie. Now it's all together again

Don't wish to be rude but why would anyone want to lend out their expensive tools? Mate or no Mate i certainly would not lend out any tools whether they're expensive or not.

If you need a job doing go pay for it or buy the tool you need to do it with,thats how i got my tools and equipment..I paid for it.

Well, at the time I didn't need the cabinet, and I didn't have anywhere really to store it, so it was convenient for me for him to borrow it. Of course, I hadn't counted on him going totally nuts...

At least , it's proof to show the Police/Insurance company that a crime had taken place in the first place.

There is always negatives as well as positives in everything . But there is always alternatives . So ,just sit back , do nothing and let the

I really feel for you. These scum don't realise they take so much more than material things. I use my (paid for with my own hard earned) tools all the time with my son, and one day they will all be his so he can do the same with his son(/daughter!!) And so on.

I hope it ends on a happy note for you, I fear they will be long gone but hopefully the insurance comes good. If not, I'm sure Ive got a few odds and ends to at least help get you started again.

So true atomant. Had my garage broken into last year. Tossers took loads of tools, but what choked me most was losing some of my Dads old tools. Every last one of them had memories of him and me working together.
Police managed to catch the scumbags, but Dads tools were long gone. Then to make matters worse, our fantastic legal system allowed them out on bail, at which point they did a runner. Now been found guilty in their absence, which means they can't claim benefits, so will have to nick from someone else to feed themselves.

Cheers for that, and thanks for the offer. I do have other tools to use as I have had repair garages, my mobile tools are not all snap on though, which I have been buying since I was able to buy them.
Mechanics have a feel for their tools and their 'favorites', that I cannot explain , the loss is more painful than losing my mum or dad, and I dont say that lightly because I loved them both dearly I am a realist and understand that people leave you at some point , but now I am shaking all over and cant sleep.
my mum and dad died separately and the losses were horrible but this is like a part of me that has been TORN away and I have a feeling of deep anger, etc because I know how much work has gone into earning my stuff and that is what you do, EARN them. I have had a lot of stuff stolen over the years from money to vehicles one was a recovery truck, that had a brand new complete teng tool box in it, never even opened , but that was just annoying because I didnt have the mental attachment to it, if you catch my drift. This feels like my sole has been ripped out.

i know what you mean some of my tools was my dads even though they are never used i would miss them

is easy for you to say, what you would or woud'nt have done, there was a damn site
more in there than that, but you dont know my situation, and what I was doing or needed, because the need was to be moved easily and it is not that easy to move 20 ton about without a great deal of trouble.
Containers dont have wheels on them. And it was in a 'secure' compound with a person living on site.
