john, you are a star. You have just proved to my missus that i am not totally mental and that using a drill is a perfectly fine replacement for the broken electric whisk. She was halfway through a cake and it went bang, she refused to let me use the drill, apparently it was a disgusting idea haha

Mine was the same-and she was aghast when I used my blowlamp to caramelise some sugar-she has boogered off for good now-dunno what she would think of me paring thin cheese slices with a 2" woodworking chisel.
Back in the late 60s my Mum (with the help of Mr green shield or Embassy)had bought our Dad a Black and Decker drill with all the attachments in a nice wooden cupboard to hang on the wall it had arrived around November, it was supposed to be his Christmas present, anyway the old woman was busy making Christmas pud in those brown mixing bowls when she said to the old man, "you stir this while I pop off to the Co-op" to get something or other, she jumps in the car and away she goes. The old man says to me you hold the bowl and I will get the ideal tool for this job and in to the Drill cupboard he goes sticks the paint stirrer attachment in the drill and away he goes, next thing he hears the car come up the drive and in his panic he tips the drill to the side and sprays me, the back wall and the ceiling in currants and sultanas "Oh shh.. quick quick hide the drill hide the drill and don't you dare say anything" he says to me. now our house had very high ceilings and my mam wore glasses but she would have needed to be blind not to notice, the back kitchen looked as if Eliot Ness had just run through with a Thompson sub machine gun. I quickly ran up the stairs to my bedroom leaving him to face the music. He`s still got that Black and Decker drill case even though some of the bits are missing, I think it was the paint stirrer that went missing first.
