silverline cutting disks

I just tested out a pack of these 230 mm thin cutting disks, they are the worst ones I've ever used, they are made of pastry don't bother with them.

I think if you'd used the forum search you probably wouldn't have bought them in the first place, I'm pretty sure they've been discussed on here before and the general consensus was that they were rubbish.
I know I bought a few 1mm ones once and would never buy any again.

I bought some 125 mm x 1mm ones in aldi or lidl expecting them to be rubbish, and tested them when I got home against a Bosch one, no difference, so I went back and bought the entire bin full, worked out at 14 p each, never seen them again though, so I'm always up for a test on cheap ones, I expect massive dissapointment though.

Screwfix Erbaur 230 x 2 are not bad value.

anything with silverline on it is usually crap.

I use the erbauer 115x1mm discs quite often, only had one break up on me, which is more than I can say about the more expensive discs.

Not Silverline but some Machine Mart 350mm discs I had, they were so bad they nearly shook the chop saw off the bench and the amount of dust they made was unbelievable.

I bought the Aldi 125mm ones which they had left over when they were reduced to clear, still using them and no problem. I had some Machine Mart chop saw 350mm discs that almost shook the saw off the bench and made so much dust they were unusable. Screwfix ones were quite good.

I wouldn't willingly buy anything badged Silverline, least of all grinder discs.

My experience of cheap grinder discs is that they don't last long at all and I've had pieces fly off them. It's one of those things where I'd rather buy a top brand than attempt to save money. If you look, things like Dronco discs aren't too bad, especially is you are putting a mail order together for a welding supplier.

I avoid anything Silverline having had reverse ground rakes on drills, and just about everything from them I have ever bought needing modification or just plain breaking

I do have a Silverline 7" variable speed polisher that has served be faultlessly for over 5 years but everything else is poor tat made down to a price.

I have read a few good reviews of the Silverline car polishers. Worth knowing that the other stuff is tat. I have some of the Aldi grinding discs but haven't used them yet. I have a couple of boxes of the Aldi dremmel knock off accessories - sanding cylinders seem OK, but the cutting discs are pants. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.

That's odd, as i purchased some of the lidl / aldi ones (cant remember which - parkside) and found them to be pretty poor in comparrison to the bosch discs. Ive found the parkside ones to ware quickly, in an odd way - and they bend whilst cutting, which i find a little worrying!

But..


I grabbed an old tin of Aldi white gloss from my workshop the other day, used it, went to wash the brush, and they have changed the composition, without the label - the old tins are oil based, and the new are water.

So they may have done the same with the discs?

Don't forget that they don't make, they import and badge, so it may depend on where they get their discs from and they could be anything from Norton surplus stock to the cheapest generic Chinese tat, but usually the Chinese tat.

i guarantee You will never skimp on discs again

Even expensive disks will let go once in a while, especially when a numpty (my brother for instance) is using the machine!

The ones I got were power craft brand, quite a while ago, I think I'm down to about 25 / 50 left now, i did notice that some of the packs were different, and the disks inside softer, so even the same brand has no quality control in it.

Never had a disk break up in use though.

Was in Aldi the other day to buy some of their metal paint and whilst there bought some of their thin cutting discs and flap discs.
Whilst the flap disc that I have tried was good the thin cutting discs are utter rubbish; I reckon one of the discs I had been using previously would outlast the whole packet of these.

I'll keep them for cutting cheese, Brie or suchlike.......
