siezed and rounded nuts

use them in work (one of the fitters has them) don't think much of them, I find they work ok if the bolt head is rounded so the spanner just starts to grip, then slips, but on a totally round nut they don't work ime, although that said ive only used them a handful of times.

bit pricey though for one job

We often see 15 mm exhaust flange nuts corroded really badly
Once heated to bright red a smaller socket is nocked on to remove the "slag"
More heat then a single hex socket (usually 12 mill) the nut comes off
You would be amazed at what "proper" heat can do

probably get it on one of the studs, and the part of the flexi i have already cut, but not the bit that's left. I might risk a bit of h and s abuse and put a worn 9" disc on my grinder...would certainly give me the reach i need

If you have chopped the flexi, we could probably blast the rest of the flexi away to get through to the other side maybe? Up to you, let me know tonight as I'm headed to Wales tomorrow evening from work

cheers. I am still aski g around for a dremmel but have just had an idea, as i have cut halfway through the flexi pipe i am going to try and get some aviation snips in there to get through the rest that i cant get the hacksaw into. Will let you know how it goes

well it seems to be working. Bit arkward to get the snips in but they do cut it, but now we have torrential rain bursts so going it in drips and drabs at the moment

been there with the fiesta, one of the wheel cylinders burst an o-ring and spewed all the brake fluid out on the way back from Tesco. My father picked me up a new inr and.just as we took the wheel off it hammered down, i had about 2.5 hours till work started, with a 45 min drive. Wasn't a very happy bunny that day

You can get a little tool called a nut splitter, needs the room of a socket and it tightens down on the Nut splitting it off the thread. Not dear

already mentioned that I have tried that but due to the collar on the nut cant get it to sit square

Have you tried tapping on a slightly undersize, 12 point socket? Sort of the reverse of using Torx bits on rounded out Allen bolts.

yeah tried that as a first option, just rounded them more. They are properly seized on. I'm nearly through the flexi now but rain has halted.play for today

Or one you could put a pit into perhaps? I am slowly filling an inspection pit here the last owners put in (warning getting out of a pit when fire starts is not good- better not ask how I know that one!)

The trouble with pits is they collect heavier than air gasses and vapours. this can then result in explosions or asphyxiation. <--- good word for scrabble

but back to your original post. is there any way you can drop the exhaust to give more clearance?

its off now. I took the brute force and ignorance attitude, welded and old broken crowbar onto a length of pipe, sharpened the end and then came in from the top and chiseled through the flexi. After it fell off the job was quite simple to get the rest off. But now i have everything marked up to cut and weld it has started raining quite heavily so once again im on pause

Just move to the inside jobs then?.

I'm in the middle of 2 weeks off for the shutdown and do the outside jobs while the weather's OK then do the inside jobs when it starts raining, I'll be glad to get back to work for a rest

sounds like im on same shutdown as you, back to work on the 11th?

I have no indoor jobs to do, I have not long finished doing everything as the landlord wants to do an inspection. the only jobs left that need doing are on the car lol
