I have some of the Tenvis outdoors ones and initially had problems with water penetration. (They are in a fairly exposed area). I eventually dismantled them, and put them back together with a bag of silica gel inside and I greased the sealing 'O' rings with Vaseline. Had no problems since.

thats £500 plus another 5 cameras eeeek
was checking the prices of 4 camera set ups might be better to get 2 4 cameras sets up and run them separate especially if the recorders are hidden in different places in the barn

I bought mine from Maplin , DVR with 1 camera [160GB HDD] =£99 , it is a CnM unit . I added 3 more cameras from ebay and put a 500GB HDD in the unit . Had lots of problems in the past with scrap metals poachers nicking stuff from the back yard , so I installed the system ...........nothing taken since !
I disguised the cameras and built them into PIR security light fittings , at night you just see a ring of red LED's , they light up the yard in total darkness ?!?
Have 3 cameras at the front of the property and one at the back . You really need things like this nowadays , once there up you forget about them until there needed as proof , they run 247.

Most remote viewing works in a similar way.
Your home broadband router has an external unique IP address - this is assigned at random by your provider and can change at any time. It'll look like this : 123.456.789.012 Type "my IP address" into google to see what it is.
To allow multiple devices to share this unique address your broadband router assigns each device a 'private' IP address and then it keeps track of what incoming data needs to go where. These private addresses are usually 192.168.xxx.xxx but can also be 10.0.xxx.xxx. Actually they can be anything but 192 and 10.0 are most common.
Why do you care? Because to use remote viewing you need to know the unique address to go to AND your broadband router needs to know where to send any incoming requests.
To get round the random address changes by your ISP you can use a 'dynamic dns' service to keep track of it.
To tell your router where to send incoming request you need to set up port forwarding on your broadband router.
The good news is that neither of these are required to be able to view your camera from another device on your internal network. So viewing your cameras from your ipad is as easy as putting in the private IP address of your recorder.

If the cameras are disguised how could they have deterred theives? Just a thought. If you forget about them till you need proof you might find they're covered in cobwebs and have captured nothing. Spiders love IR light.
I'd want my camera where they can be seen (some of them anyway) so anyone thinking of badness will think its too risky...
