IF you NEED sockets coming down from the ceiling, use proprietary cable reels.
I can see the advantages and disadvantages to ceiling sockets. I'd consider putting 16A sockets in, but you'd need to remove the covers to ensure that if they get yanked on, the retention doesn't rip the socket down. I did toy with this for my garage, but enough sockets round the perimeter does the trick I think.
Amazes me they sell those units in B&Q. Hardly DIY is it?
Yep, though in theory gravity should prevent there being much of a build up that would cause a problem. You could adjust the plug actually, and remove the notch that locks into the dust cap, that would be better, but the retention mechanism is there for a reason. The number of sockets I fail on a regular basis when doing portable appliance testing (hehe, I hate the term PAT Test, when it's already got test in the acronym!) due to failure (usually the absence of the cap) of the retention mechanism is amazing.remove the dust caps of a 16amp non fused socket in an environment with metal fragments capable of reaching every area of the workshop...definitely need an rcd then. we used to have sockets on the machines in work until one of them caused a major issue when it was found to have swarf inside it due to a faulty gland. can still smell the burning cables

Oooh, the salesman in me thinks that looks a lot better on the invoice. I think I might add a few quid more per test with a grand description like that. It's easier than "In-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment"![]()
which will be the best scrutinised on here or work with an inspector of the nic eic as i do and he asks me how i want it doing as hese working for meDoes he realise his install will be scrutinised by the forum sparkies?![]()
The initial cost could be offset with a few paying jobs?
