the weldporn page on facebook gets me every time I log in. there were a stunning set of exhausts on a Porsche, and the video footage of it taking off at speed, looked and sounded awesome, and everytime I look at the page there are about 15 more pics just like those.
the missus thinks I have a problem, especially when I bring a bit of metal into the house to get a better look in decent light lol
I do a lot of consultancy for Formula 1 and regularly see welding like that on inconel exhaust manifolds amongst other stuff. Sadly they won't let me take pictures
A transformer or inverter can do that,
Its technique that achieves it,
similar to a normal pass but instead of moving the pool forward after adding a dip of filler material the pool is moved across at about 45 degrees then dip the rod again before moving the pool back across at 45 degrees again and so on,
i do occaisionally, normal when a wider than normal weld bead is needed.
Damn I really want to do Tig welding again having looked at those pics, I haven't done any in 15 years, oh boy do I miss it. It's sad I know but I used to get so much pleasure from achieving a really consistant weld.
I keep toying with getting an old scratch start transformer machine just to play with, HF start is just too easy.
