What to seal this with ?

I'm with Mr Stobbs, sump gasket/valve cover sealant. I'm sure it's the loctite stuff I use, with no problems. And that's been used between 2 different metals, steel sump and ally block as well as ally to ally from head to valve cover.

Am going to go with the above, not only as it sounds right but also reminds me I have a tube of red Nissan sump sealant
Stays semi rubberised ? So should do the job

Long time since I did out like this but you tin them first with silver then just braze them someone will be familiar with this. May be able to get some special flux but it can be done

Personally, IF I were making this from scratch I would have looked at a thermal interference fit, possibly with some aerobic sealant, and made the part (s) to suit.

It may be tricky to clean it out enough to braze successfully, especially if it's cast ally.

You ain't gonna get the stub in if you tin it with anything, even if it's possible. Loctite is what I would use, clean, smear it on and press home. Any of the anaerobic ones (which most of the ones we commonly use are) will hold that with no letting go.

I would be reaching for my trusty bottle of Loctite 601 Retainer to keep that in place and stop it leaking.

You want super steel - fills, seals, oil, high temp resistant. Used it on my engine block a few times to refit press fit breather pipes that have come lose over years - holds it solid after and the engine temp/oil have zero effect on it.

Hermitie or rtv sealant would be my choice.

Rtv sealant would be best. Loctite instant gasket would also work

why not replace the steel bit with an ally bit and weld?

OR if you not set up for ally, maybe one of those ally brazing rods? dunno if they work but meant to… i saw them in halfrauds.

Could you tap the ali bit for a big helicoil and screw it in?

The early V6 Reliant Scimitars has a problem with the fuel pipe pulling out of the alloy carb so a potential fire risk. Cure was a solid pin through the alloy and into the pipe.

Could you do something similar with the hose stub ?
What about a grub screw in the alloy that just bites into the steel tube ?

my mate was in a 3 pin plug when it caught fire don't know if it was the problem above but the speed that the fire broke through the resin rocket left him very shaken, his young son was with him at the time

There was a Reliant Crapavan local to us that caught fire & the passengers only just got out in time, by the time the fire brigade arrived all that was left was the chassis & engine. I've never heard them called 3 pin plugs before, plastic pigs usually.
