Hoho.
The most bodgy repair I've ever witnessed was a mate who stuck a patch of Formica on a chassis leg with some Isopon. The 'pon squeezing out of the edge was nicely filleted and left to set, then the whole lot was Schutzed over.
Visually, it was a lovely neat welded patch and totally indistinguishable from the real thing.

Sounds like a lot of the desirable cars for sale in the Thames Valley Trader during the mid 80's, peel the underseal off and read The Sun. Sometimes you could age how long the car had been overpriced for as it was last weeks news!

Someone I used to know repaired the chassis on a A40 Devon van with sand & cement. He gave me a lift one night to one of the local pubs & forgot about the humpback bridge over the canal, he got all 4 wheels off! When we landed it looked like a demolition crew was in town, all the cement & rubble was all over the road.

If it was an A40 Devon, I imagine the incident occurred quite a long time ago.
A sand/cement mix might not be ideal for repairing vehicles, but it does form a very strong bond after a couple of hours in contact with a shovel, trowel or bucket.

About 1967, it must of passed the MOT though. Mind I do recall he went into the scrapyard & took off a wheel & tyre which the canvas was showing most of the way round & fitting a tyre which was smooth, bald as a badgers a.... Because it was slightly better & cheap. Thank goodness for the tyre law now.

The love of my mates life, a MkIV Cortina failed it's Mot on a cracked floorpan and I had a look on the way home from the pub. Sure enough I found the crack marked in yellow so as he's a spark I delved in his tool bag, nicked one of his best screwdrivers and stuck it in for a gentle pry about. A few chips of filler came off. Kept going, more filler in bigger chunks. In for a Penny, in for a pound, out with a bolster chisel and club hammer and even more filler. Eventually found metal and a 12" x 12" chunk of filler came off 1" thick where the crack was revealing......no, not the carpet but a dent in the floorpan! Chipped it all off the next day, left it bare and took it back with the filler for a certificate.
