Which donar axle?

Work have recently acquired two metal containers similar to this.

But ours are slightly heavier duty.

Im considering making one into a trailer as id then be able to use it myself. The main thing im not sure of is what would make a good donar suspension/axle for it without costing too much as ill have to pay but work may keep it if/when i leave.

Any other tips on building a trailer greatly appreciated.

Either 2indespension units and a big bit of box or a saxo/206/106/205 or any beam axle with rubbers

Are you allowed to make your own trailers nowadays?

I know you can't make towbars anymore. Or am I dreaming that I've read it somewhere.

l have been collecting parts to build a fifth wheel camper from scratch, might scupper my plans a bit if that's right

have a look here 5th wheel campers are a bit of a grey area depending on weight you may need a class one LGV licence to drive one also can be classed as private LGV

i built a car transporter trailer using 2 ford van axles as said who the hell knows how old it is .the laws in our favour its a p,.,.,.s take

Will it be used on the road, you dont say?
Just look on fleabay for a proper trailer axle, you can get a complete axles and hubs etc for less than £100, also with wheels.
What do you want to spend?
To make that in to a trailer, if it has a good base frame then all you will need is the A frame to be made from 50mm box and a hitch.

As sais above, sod the trailer laws, how can theyh tell when the trailer was made, its refurbed it will take many years for them to be able to prove otherwise

l have googled the current trailer regs and every reference l can find seems to say that commercially made trailers need to be type approved or vosa inspected since sept 2012 while specials and one off trailers dont come under the regs till sept 2014
according to my calender l still have a few months left to make my special trailer or am l reading it wrong ???

dunno but how are they going to police it unless u use parts that can be clearly dated or off newer vehicles that are made after that date its all bo././/x u will still be able to make em

I had a phone call today from a Trailer manufacture with some bad news for home built trailers, Please read Below



I had a long chat with a bloke at the Vehicle Certification Agency and he confirmed that the new IVA testing applies to ALL trailers whether home made or commercially manufactured.

I told him that the available information is as clear as mud and they need to update their documentation to make it clear in plain English that it includes amateur/home made trailers. He agreed and will be getting someone to change the wording on their information.

The second link has a vague mention of "bespoke trailers" on page 9. This is supposed to tell us that it is relevant to home made/amateur built trailers but typically with government documents it's as clear as mud. They are going to change the wording to make it clearer.

Peugeot 205's are long finished. There are now very few Saxos left on the road. Why were they scrapped.... Because the rear axles went on them. Peugeot 206 might be slightly more available , but the axles do go on these too.
