Finally all is done and working just looks a bit bodged for now.
Rewired everything but left out connections for the actual light so obviously no good then just decided to use the rose wired it all up again then fitted new light bracket over that and it worked and isn't blowing anything but cosmetically the while thing isn't flush with the ceiling, shall work out how to attach it better and fix it once I have.

) so you can imagine the bodgery he's encountered over the years... kitchen extension electrics were the best bit. Oven spurred off the lounge socket ring main and the wiring to the worktop sockets running diagonally across the wall from where the ceiling met the original back wall of the house. When he stripped out the old upper cabinets he found where the plasterer had written "Do not drill here" and dashed lines indicating the cable run.
