Ha ha ! Rusty`s went off on one.....you tell em mate .....Rule Britania. Anyway the guy from Ireland is only asking the question. We do appear very Un European in a lot of ways I admit..........It`s cos we`re British..lol. I`m over in Old Ireland every year and have always done well on exchange apart from one or two years.There were years they were chargin for a pound to give you a Punt. It`s still good value for money over there ......apart from Dublin maybe. You could say the same about London

Anyway grinders........... don`t buy a blue Bosch. I`ve been using my Chinese made one ......crap in feel and poor switch.

Thanks for a balanced view, I suppose its just a different way of looking at things, punt pound parity happened quite a lot back in the day, they were originally the same currency so were closer related that the £ Stg and €

I think people are mislead by the fact that £ 1 is "worth" more than € 1.

Fact is that if the UK were to swap to € overnight that nobody would loose any money, if you had 100k stg today you would have €133,786 tomorrow, but a house that would have cost 100k stg yesterday would be €133,786 tomorrow, nothing has changed but the numbers, one 'unit' is worth less, but you get paid more 'units' per hour, so it all balances out.

Ah grinders... yes..

I got the Aldi 9" grinder and as expected, the handle wobbles a little bit, but not too bad.
It is very noisy though, but all in all well worth the 40E I think.

While we are on the Aldi thing. Most stuff intimates to being of German origin right?. I`ve bought a fair few of their tools. Are they not just doing what Rehman are supposedly doing........ie getting the Chinese to build stuff to a spec. Nothing wrong with that mind you...........that`s what Teng tools do. They are a Swedish company who aint never cast a tool of their own..........among many others.

Have an Aldi Jigsaw. Crap switch with intermittent fault but a big chunky motor that goes like a train and has cut a lotta wood.

I have an aldi reciprocating saw which suffers with a problem with the switch too, its nearly caught me out once or twice where you think its not going to go and then starts all of a sudden.

Served me well enough when I was lopping overhanging branches off the neighbours evergreens though

Might have to keep an eye out in Aldi for one of those grinders if / when they make their way over here.

You seem to be taking all this fairly seriously, one of the smallest islands? the UK is the eight biggest island out of literally thousands of islands in the world, Ireland is the 20th but ranks 2nd world wide in GDP per capita as compared to the UK's 13th, must be all the EU aid I suppose, sure you can consider it repayment for the 800 years of oppression............

I noticed straight away that cheap grinders are not well balanced. In fact that may be the main difference between cheap and quality. As balance affects performance so much.

Since I may have touched a nerve here, I just want to say that I like to write things a little spicy to stir up discussion. I may have written stuff that could possibly offend about 75% of the world’s population in some way.
Anyway, offending people is not my aim. Just hope to create interesting discussions in which we can learn from each other’s viewpoints. That is what we are supposed to do in a democracy isn’t it? We can’t just leave it all to the politicians and believe whatever they say or what the media feeds us. In the end, we vote for them, pay their salaries and should be able to exercise influence on them as a group if we really wanted to.
