Best heat resistant welding gloves?

Hey guys, I'm just wanting a few opinions on which glove you believe to be the best in terms of resisting heat? I'm a sucker for burning my index finger knuckle when welding.

What they have specifically made welding gloves? Haha just kidding yeah I burnt a hole in my gloves aswell need to buy some new ones now and get fabricating

So far I've been using the relatively heavy duty £ shop gardening gloves. Yes, they do let the heat through after a while and they can start to singe a bit at the fingertips, but for the price they are quite adequate for me. I may yet invest in a better pair in time.

If it's just the knuckle you could try some heat resistant tape?

forget the old school gauntlets, get some lambskin TIG gloves. They're fantastic, only £8 or so, a lot easier to use IMO

get yourself a TIG FINGER heat resistant material slips over the gloved finger works realy well !

i bought a tig finger, but it doesn't stop the back of my hand burning when propping a mig torch

Keep your fingers further away from the heat! If your mig welding wear mig gauntlets if your tig welding wear tig gloves

your using both hands to steady your mig torch ! yeah back of the hand does get rather hot !

Get yourself a pair of foil backed gloves.... first time I tried them I wasn't that impressed but you learn to hold the torch further away. As long as you don't actually rest the glove on or near the welds they work well...

May well be a bit over the top for DIY work though.

Cheers for the replies, folks. I'm gonna try some heat resistant gloves and, should that fail, I'll get myself a tig finger. Probably just a technique error, to be honest - my left hand gets far too close to the heat.

They are terrible.awful.the first sign of heat they shrink like hell.your knuckles end up down at the cuff

I've got a couple pairs of gloves similar to these http://www.superiorglove.com/work-gloves/heat-resistant-gloves/kevlar-heat-resistant-gloves but I have not used them for welding so cannot comment.I believe they were about 9 euros for one glove. I use them occasionally for moving hot work about and working near hot bike exhausts.Not sure they will solve your problem though but they tend not to transfer heat like leather.
UV rays might pass through the weave though?.

Just a question, how do you know what size to get? I don't know how hands are measured!

If it's just one finger, then get a tig finger. Took me a while to start using mine but gets used a lot now!

http://www.hse.gov.uk/skin/employ/glovesizes.htm I allow slack for welding gloves. Also, most diy sheds gloves can be tried on without buying to find your number or S M L.

You want a heat shield there fantastic for reflecting the heat, there a must for synergic mig on thick stainless
