Anyone know the cost of getting one off copy castings done, the doors , front panel ,and flue box from this old range...

There's a small foundry near me (Stockton Casting Co.) who take on small runs and one-offs, you could Google them?

There is something of a history of casting around here; the first Big Ben was cast not far from my house... shame the soft southerners dropped it and it cracked

The guys in the pattern shop at the foundry where I worked had rules with different oversize markings depending on the material to be cast.

Indeed, the pattern needs to be bigger than the final item to allow for material shrinkage as it cools

Thin castings can be difficult as the pour cools before it flows out, might be why you have had no reply!

Personally I wouldn't even bother with stockton castings there's a better ''jobbing foundry'' in middlesbrough,they do all sorts of castings,& very approachable,it's on 40ft road & they've been in business for over 100 yrs they've done loads of castings for tornado & many local steam engines as well as for the steelworks,unfortunately a bit far away for original enquiry, as for shrinkage,by the time it's well rapped it'll not be much smaller & it's not a precision casting so won't really matter,
footnote,the original westminster bell -aka big ben was cast at warners foundry at norton-on-tees & subsiquently cracked en route,so a new one was cast I think at the whitechapple bell foundry[tho I could be wrong]

I have a couple of small items I want cast. I was thinking of doing them from aluminium but cast iron would be so much better.

That's the art of being a good foundryman,yes thin castings can be difficult but they know how to overcome this,also as it's in iron it flows easily unlike[say] brass which doesn't

The foundry I use only do non ferrous, I asked about iron casting and he did give me a few names of places in Sussex and
Kent, not that I can remember what he said but I would guess you could find them easy enough with Google.
