What's the story with Esab/Murex? Who owns who?

ESAB bought the murex brand years ago, as far back as the 70's I think but they discontinued murex products (maybe all bar a few wires and electrodes) about 18 months back

I thought ESAB were owned by ASEA/ABB at one point?

They definitely had something to do with them, not sure who owned who.

In the early 00's ESAB was bought by an investment group called, Charter and then re-sold years later to Colfax which is a American based investment group who have just announced the purchase of Victor

No one. The got discontinued.

Hmmm I wonder what the spares position is then?

They definately had strong ties at one point as you could buy ESAB yellow robots (instead of usual orange) and ESAB mig/mag welding equipment was the preferred supplier for integration with ABB robots.

I think by law there is a 10yr continuation of spare parts by most European manufacturers

Good machines ESAB; we used to have some transformer migs, all bought second hand, that used to keep batting on and on.
As i remember, duty cycle was not always the best on them - these were 500 amp too!

We had about 15 Murex welders at my last place and all spares I ordered were ESAB branded/packaged!.

They had the "architect" system which was robot controller and power source in same box.

In the years prior to the discontinuation of murex most of the ESAB/murex machines were indenticle aside from one being red and the other yellow

Yeah that's what I noticed when I was looking at the ESAB/Murex 200A mig. Even had the same model number!
