Which flowmeter?

I have just changed from disposable gas to a Hobbyweld cylinder.

I have a new 2 gauge regulator but am led to believe that the flow meters on these regulators can be very inaccurate and therefore wasteful.

I plan to buy either
(a) a peashooter type of flow meter to hold over the end of the torch shroud, or
(b) a flowmeter to screw onto the regulator outlet and then onto the gas pipe.

Which type does anyone recommend? Is one type more convenient than the other?
Are they both equal in accuracy?

I use the kind that goes on the regulator, allows you to quickly check and adjust as you are working. Say if you are changing to a bigger ceramic with tig and or welding outside with mig.

There are normally 2 different flow rate ones about, you'd want the bigger flow one for mig up to 30ltrs a min or there abouts the smaller flow is more suited to tig.

The peashooter type is most accurate as it measures at "point of use" but the regulator mounted type is more convienient and less likely to get lost for normal MIG welding I'd go with the reg mount type.

When would I need a flow rate of more than 14 lpm for MIG welding?

When outside in windy conditions where you may need above 14lpm,
I'd go for the regulator mounted version as you can monitor it at a glance.

I find the regulator mounted type more convenient as it's easy to adjust and read at a glance. Both types will be equal in accuracy if used correctly.

+1 peashooter, cheap and easy to use.
